1.Understand the importance of sterilization, disinfection and non-specific and specific prevention measures in limiting the spread of these infectious agents in the environment as well as in the human population and in healthcare settings.

Introduction into microbiology. Classification principles of microorganisms. Atypical bacteria. Viruses. Fungi. Physiology of bacteria. Environmental and human body microflora. Antibiotic substances and bacterial resistance against them.

Bacterial physiology: principles of metabolism, growth and reproduction. Normal microflora of the external environment and the human body. Antibiotics. Resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics.

Immunity, its classification. Basic mechanisms of innate immunity. Acquired immunity, the cells that provide it. Types and basic mechanisms of immune response. Hypersensitivity.

The most topical bacterial and fungal infections: etiology, principles of pathogenesis, principles of prevention.

Topical viral infections: etiology, principles of pathogenesis and prevention.

Parasites. Infections caused by Parasites.

Safety rules in the bacteriological laboratory. Methods for preparation and staining of microbiological smears. Bacterial culture. Media. Inoculation technique. Principles of identification. Determination of air, water microflora. Examination of the human body – skin, hair, respiratory tract, oral microflora. Analysis of environmental and human microflora samples. Sterilization. Disinfection. Determination of susceptibility to antibiotics.
