Placement Rotation in Internal Medicine

1.Upon completion of the study course, the student will have acquired knowledge and will be able to analyse and understand the clinical, laboratory and visual examination methods of patients of various profiles with regard to the most common chronic pathology in adults. They will know and recognize the symptoms and algorithms of various diseases – investigation and treatment tactics, patient safety and clinical risk management; they will be able to produce evidence-based recommendations, will be able to apply critical thinking and synthesize knowledge.

1.Students will be able to collect history, perform physical examination of patients, evaluate patient's vital signs (i.e. patient's state of consciousness, breathing, heart rate, central and peripheral pulse, arterial blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation, body temperature, diuresis), recognize patients with haemodynamic instability, prescribe diagnostic examinations and therapy, diagnose the patient, educate the patient on health and disease prevention issues, provide emergency care, draw up medical records, use information and communication technology, observe general and professional ethics, organize one's own and teamwork. Students will be able to educate patients on rational use of medicines, possibilities of disease prevention and public health issues. They will be able to express sympathy in the conversation with a patient/ relative and to express a reasoned opinion. Students will be able to check patients' compliance with treatment recommendations.

1.The competence acquired during the study course will allow purposeful and structured examination of the patient's history, assessment of the patient's vital signs (namely, patient's state of consciousness, breathing, heart rate, central and peripheral pulse, arterial blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation, body temperature, diuresis) the components and symptomatology that affect it; the competence will allow to assess the patient's health status, interpret normality and deviation and relate the finding to the specific situation and to take decision regarding the further activity. It will allow to recognize acute medical conditions, to organize timely assistance, to interpret the results of various examinations and draw appropriate conclusions and to plan the treatment. The acquired competence will allow to perform manipulations appropriate to the respective pathological condition, to write prescriptions, to fill in medical documentation in accordance with the requirements of regulatory enactments.
