About Study Course

Objective

To acquire and improve theoretical and practical skills in working with adults with various communication and language/speech disorders of various etiologies (stroke, oncological diseases, trauma, neurodegenerative diseases, hearing impairments etc.).

Preliminary Knowledge

Voice therapy; Acquired neurological communication disorders, course paper; Disorders of Speech Rhythm and Tempo; Introduction into Alternative and Augmentative Communication.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.• will list communication, language/speech, voice, swallowing disorders of various aetiologies in adults; • will classify communication, language/speech, voice, swallowing disorders in adults; • will describe ways of learning about disorders; • will list the possible types of therapy in cases of communication, language/speech, voice, swallowing, hearing disorders in adults.

Skills

1.• will demonstrate knowledge of communication, language/speech, voice, swallowing disorders in adults (within the scope of their competence); • will assess the state of communication and speech/language, swallowing, voice in adults; • will analyse the disorder; • will plan the necessary therapy; • will demonstrate the implementation of the planned therapy.

Competences

1.• will systematise the obtained a medical history and assessment data on communication and language/speech, voice, swallowing, hearing disorders in adults; • will interpret the obtained medical history data, will create individualized therapy plans and helps adults improve their communication, language, voice, swallowing and hearing skills.

1. Assessment of language/speech, voice, swallowing disorders, documentation/portfolio creation 2. Planning Speech Therapy session and implement the plan. 3. Preclinical studies: Clinical case analysis (working sessions with a specialists in the field). 4. Preclinical studies: Preparation stage for simulation scenarios. Pre briefing in clinical simulation. 5. Preparation of a clinical case presentation. Creating recommendations for clients and their relatives on the prevention of communication, speech/language, voice, swallowing disorders.

1. Preclinical studies: Clinical case analysis. Simulation scenarios. 2. Analysis and presentation of two clinical cases (in the 7th and 8th semesters); 3. Clinical Practice portfolio. 4. Assessment by the placement supervisor on the student’s work during the placement.
