About Study Course

Objective

Promote the acquisition of knowledge on health organisation, policy and financing issues in Latvia and the world. Introduce students with theoretical management assumptions and practical methods, their applications. To raise awareness of the quality management system in the healthcare system.

Preliminary Knowledge

The concept of health, philosophy and medical ethics, introduction to evidence-based care, public health and epidemiology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of the acquisition of the study course, students will be able to define health care policy, Latvian health policy documents. Formulate and explain the system of health care financing in Latvia and other European countries. Define the organisational structure of Latvia's health care, the levels of health care. Will be able to describe the application of general management principles and the specific features of the national healthcare system.

Skills

1.As a result of the acquisition of a study course, the student will be able to assess the documents of Latvian health care systems, requirements in the context of practice. Will be able to focus on the organisational structure and management of health care.

Competences

1.Be able to justify the limits of professional activity of their and other healthcare professionals in the context of healthcare policies and legislation; to extend a variety of health policy documents and legislation to the individual patient/client situation; to analyse, evaluate, synthesise and make recommendations on individual aspects of the health system; to analyse the basic principles of the quality management system.
