About Study Course

Objective

To promote acquisition of such inclusive sports education study experience by future specialists, which promotes the implementation of an inclusive educational environment and prepares specialists for the achievement of individual educational objectives of students with special educational needs.

Preliminary Knowledge

The student is familiar with the basic principles of pedagogy, educational psychology and sports pedagogy, understands the planning, implementation and evaluation of the learning process in sports education. Is able to plan and organise the sports learning process according to the age and individual needs of pupils using different learning methods and information and communication technologies. Understands the health effects of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, sports medicine and physical activity, as well as is familiar with the principles of safe physical activity organisation. Be able to cooperate with students, colleagues and other stakeholders in accordance with the principles of professional ethics, as well as analyse and reflect on their pedagogical activities using knowledge and skills acquired in pedagogical practice and research.

Theory of inclusive sports education

Job description: The student shall independently acquire the theoretical foundations of inclusive sports education, including the principles of adjusted theory of physical activity, legal regulation of special and inclusive education in Latvia, international and national regulatory documents of sports education, as well as analyse obstacles to inclusive education, contributing factors and the process of inclusion in sports education. Within the framework of the independent work, ecological analysis of the inclusion process in sports education is carried out.

Conditions of performance: The work shall be individually developed using the theory, laws and regulations and scientific literature acquired in the study course. The student shall prepare an ecological analysis of the inclusion process in sports education.

Assessment parameters and criteria: Assess the use of theoretical knowledge in determining whether the theoretical principles of adjusted physical activity, the legal framework for inclusive education and the laws and regulations of sports education are correctly characterised. Assess the quality of the ecological analysis in determining whether the most relevant factors influencing inclusion are identified, the conclusions are valid and based on scientific literature. The accuracy of the use of professional terminology, the structure of the work and the conformity of the design with the requirements shall be evaluated.

Content of custom physical activity apps

Job description: The student analyses the content of customised physical activity programmes, learns the principles of planning the inclusive sports lesson and adjusting the learning process, approaches to critical thinking in customised physical activities and develops three practical works on formulating measurable goals for students with special educational needs.

Fulfilment conditions: The work must be designed individually. The student prepares three practical works in which measurable learning goals are developed for different groups of pupils with special educational needs.

Assessment parameters and criteria: assess the quality of the formulation of learning objectives by determining whether they are measurable, achievable and appropriate to students’ individual needs. Evaluates the validity of inclusive sports lesson planning by determining whether the selected modifications and adjustments to the learning process correspond to the situation. Evaluate the use of the critical thinking approach, the validity of the conclusions, the use of professional terminology and the conformity of the design of the work with the requirements.

Student-centered approach to tailored physical activity

Job description: The student shall analyse the significance of the student-centred approach in tailored physical activities, evaluate the levels of inclusion and support (LRE), as well as develop practical work on the planning of objectives and tasks in tailored physical activities.

Conditions of performance: The work shall be individually developed using the theoretical knowledge and scientific literature acquired in the study course. The student shall develop practical work on evaluation of inclusion levels and planning of objectives.

Assessment parameters and criteria: assess the validity of the assessment of the inclusion levels by determining whether the situation analysis has been carried out correctly and the conclusions are based on theoretical reasoning. Assess the quality of the planning of objectives and tasks by determining whether they meet the individual needs of pupils and the principles of tailored physical activity. Evaluates the quality of the reasoning, the use of professional terminology, the structure and presentation of the work.

Interdisciplinary cooperation in inclusive education

Job description: The student shall analyse the importance of interdisciplinary co-operation in inclusive sports education, evaluate the principles of co-operation with health care and rehabilitation specialists, sports and recreational organisations, parents or guardians and non-governmental organisations, as well as develop practical work on organising co-operation in support of pupils with special educational needs.

Conditions of performance: The work shall be individually developed using scientific literature, regulatory documents and theoretical knowledge acquired in the study course. The student shall prepare the practical work regarding the organisation of interdisciplinary co-operation.

Evaluation parameters and criteria: assess the quality of the analysis of interdisciplinary cooperation by determining whether the functions and principles of cooperation of the specialists involved are properly characterised. Assess the validity of the proposed cooperation solutions by determining whether they are suitable for supporting pupils with special educational needs. Assess the reasonableness of the conclusions, the accuracy of the use of professional terminology and the conformity of the design of the work with the requirements.

Job description: a student shall take an individual examination in which the knowledge, skills and competences acquired in the study course regarding inclusive and special sports education are demonstrated in an integrated manner. The examination shall include theoretical questions and analysis of situations regarding the planning of the inclusive sports class, the organisation of adjusted physical activities, the adaptation of the learning process to pupils with special educational needs and the use of principles of interdisciplinary cooperation in professional activities.

The parameters and criteria of the evaluation shall be: The conformity of written answers with examination questions, accuracy of theoretical knowledge and correct use of professional terminology shall be evaluated.

Assess the performance of the situation analysis tasks by determining whether the proposed solution is appropriate to the situation described, justified and based on the principles of inclusive sports education.

Evaluates the validity of the conclusions, the logic of the solutions and the ability to justify the pedagogical solutions chosen.
