Acquisition of theoretical knowledge, experience and practical skills in specific and non-specific prevention of infectious diseases, etiology, pathogenesis, clinic, course and treatment of microbial diseases, differential diagnosis of infectious diseases.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.The resident will have acquired knowledge to: - understand epidemiology of infectious diseases; - recognise clinical manifestations of infectious diseases; - understand specific and unspecific laboratory diagnostic algorithms, differential diagnosis of infectious diseases, basic treatment, medication (antimicrobials, antivirals, etc.); - identify indications for hospitalisation; - prescribe specific and non-specific prophylactic measures.

Skills

1.The resident will be able to: - make an objective clinical examination and evaluation of an infectious patient; - make decision about special diagnostic tests for laboratory diagnosis and differential diagnosis of infectious diseases; - make decision about additional diagnostic procedures to clarify the diagnosis (computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, etc.); - interpret the results obtained and prescribe appropriate therapy; - make recommendations for further treatment and follow-up of the patient under the supervision of a general practitioner; - provide emergency medical care in acute situations.

Competences

1.Upon completion of the study course, the resident will be able to: - perform highly qualified and specialised diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of acute and chronic infectious diseases; - advise other healthcare professionals, patients and patient relatives on issues related infectious diseases; - participate in the promotion of public health and the prevention of infectious diseases.

Assessment

Individual work

-
-
During the course of study, the resident doctor must independently learn: - theoretical knowledge of infectious diseases, their aetiology, pathogenesis, early diagnosis, first aid, containment and prevention, - practical skills in the methods used in the diagnosis of infectious diseases, their indications, interpretation of results and choice of treatment methods.

Examination

Examination

-
-
Attendance of practical classes, lectures, on-call duties at Emergency and Admission Department, participation in pedagogical and research work. Theoretical knowledge is assessed by a multiple-choice test (multiple-choice questions on current issues in infectious diseases), which is assessed on a 10-point grading scale.
