The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the biological and technical causes of endodontic treatment failure and the pathogenesis of persistent apical disease. The seminar covers persistent and secondary intraradicular infection, extraradicular infection, microbial biofilms, inadequate disinfection, and the influence of poor root canal obturation and coronal restoration quality on treatment failure. Biological mechanisms including foreign body reactions, periapical cysts, scar tissue healing, and other factors affecting treatment outcomes are also discussed. The seminar covers the indications, technical considerations, limitations and risks associated with the removal of phosphate cements, resorcinol–formaldehyde materials, epoxy resin-based sealers, bioceramic materials, mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), Biodentine and other root canal filling materials. The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the aetiology, classification, diagnosis and management of root resorption. The seminar covers the different types of external and internal root resorption, their pathogenesis, differential diagnosis, clinical and radiographic features, and the role of cone beam computed tomography in diagnosis and treatment planning. Particular emphasis is placed on assessing the type, activity and extent of resorption, selecting the appropriate treatment strategy and evaluating long-term prognosis. The resident develops the ability to make evidence-based clinical decisions in the management of root resorption in accordance with current scientific evidence and clinical guidelines.

The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the aetiology, diagnosis and management of calcified and obliterated root canals. The seminar explores the causes of pulp canal calcification and obliteration, diagnostic approaches, the role of cone beam computed tomography and the operating microscope in treatment planning, and contemporary techniques for root canal localisation and preparation. The resident develops the ability to select the most appropriate treatment strategy, safely locate and negotiate calcified root canals, minimise treatment-related complications and preserve the maximum amount of sound tooth structure.

The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the diagnosis and management of complex root canal anatomy. The seminar focuses on anatomical variations that significantly influence endodontic treatment and retreatment, including MB2 canals, C-shaped root canal systems, S-shaped canals, radix entomolaris, dens invaginatus, dens evaginatus and other developmental anomalies. The role of cone beam computed tomography and the operating microscope in treatment planning, canal localisation and the prevention of complications is critically evaluated. The resident develops the ability to select the most appropriate treatment strategy for complex anatomical situations while preserving sound tooth structure and minimising treatment-related complications.

The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the aetiology, diagnosis and management of discolouration in endodontically treated teeth. The seminar covers the causes of intrinsic and extrinsic discolouration, differential diagnosis, and the influence of coronal restorations, root canal filling materials and the condition of the remaining tooth structure on treatment planning. Particular emphasis is placed on the indications and contraindications for internal bleaching, bleaching techniques, bleaching agents, treatment safety and the prevention of complications, including the reduction of the risk of external cervical resorption. The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the aetiology, classification, diagnosis and treatment planning of tooth cracks and fractures. The seminar covers the clinical and radiographic features of different types of cracks and fractures, differential diagnosis, diagnostic methods and their limitations, as well as the impact of structural damage on tooth prognosis. Particular emphasis is placed on selecting the most appropriate treatment strategy according to the type of defect, restorability of the tooth and long-term prognosis. The resident develops the ability to make evidence-based clinical decisions in the management of cracked and fractured teeth.

The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the aetiology, diagnosis and treatment planning of persistent pain following endodontic treatment. The seminar covers odontogenic and non-odontogenic causes of pain, principles of differential diagnosis, clinical and radiographic assessment, and the role of a multidisciplinary approach in the evaluation of complex cases.
