About Study Course

Objective

To promote students' understanding of standards' importance and their practical application in health care system and midwife`s provided health care practice, about delivering care in accordance with standards and guidelines, based on newest scientific evidence; to inform about new international guidelines, standards and policies. To develop students' ability to search, find and analyze latest information on updated standards of care in midwifery practice.

Preliminary Knowledge

Knowledge in philosophy, ethics, personality and communication psychology, legal aspects of healthcare.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of completing the study course students will gain knowledge to find and will be able to describe the tips of standards in midwifery practice, standards' development principles and standards' analysis methods and criteria.

Skills

1.Students will be able find and to make critical analysis of standards using quality criteria and appropriate analysis methods.

Competences

1.Upon completion of the study course students will be able to choose standards, appropriate for qualitative care of women and next of kin, taking care for society sexual an reproductive health, organizing and guiding childbirth process. Will be able to take part in a discussion about the standards both with specialists and non-specialists.

During the study course, students perform all independent work, which is indicated in e-studies, within the specified term and amount. During distance lessons, those lessons are counted, during which the student is visible on camera and actively participates in the lesson.Students, who get positive assessments, will participate in course work defense. Course work is assessed according to a 10-point system, by using criteria stated in RSU Study Regulations. Students develop and defend the course work on a comparison of standard of the Republic of Latvia and foreign according to their specialty. Course work should be uploaded to Moodle environment 5 working days before defense.
