About Study Course

Objective

To introduce students to the methods and practical application of anthropology in the study of the human body structure.

Preliminary Knowledge

Knowledge of anatomy and biology in the scope of the previous years of studies.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of completing the study course, the student will know the main research methods of anthropology; will be able to define and describe the most important somatometric points of the head and body, their location and determination on the human body.

Skills

1.The student will recognise and compare the proportions of the human body in different ethnic, age and gender groups; describe the meaning of certain anthropometric measurements (longitudinal dimensions, transverse dimensions, circumferences, fat tissue fold thickness); describe the meaning, changes, trends and influencing factors of body frame and mass; define the essence of body mass index, determination and possible changes thereof; assess and compare the fat tissue fold thickness in different locations and list possible changes thereof; work with specialised literature.

Competences

1.The student will be to use the acquired theoretical and practical knowledge to skilfully determine individual somatometric points of the head and body, measure skin fat folds, determine plantogram parameters, calculate some indices of body proportions.
