About Study Course

Objective

To provide students with and improve their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in general surgery in accordance with the requirements of the surgery speciality regulations with an aim to prepare the doctor for certification in surgeon’s speciality.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- It is necessary to acquire detailed theoretical knowledge about the etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnosis of congenital and acquired, acute and chronic surgical diseases, as well as indications for conservative and surgical treatment of surgical diseases. - Must know diagnostic methods and instruments used in surgery.

Skills

1.- Provide emergency assistance, in acute cases, to a patient with surgical pathology; - create a correct diagnostic scheme and treatment tactics for a patient with surgical pathology; - perform diagnostic and therapeutic manipulations.

Competences

1.Providing surgical assistance is in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Health of Latvia, the Ministry of Health and the Association of Surgeons. The competence of the certified specialist is the diagnosis of surgical pathology, conservative and operative termination.
