About Study Course

Objective

To expand the knowledge on the fundamentals of normal and pathological ageing and the development of the scientific area, to introduce with the psychologiacl characteristics of ageing, including cognitive, affective, personality and attitude factors, as well as, educate on non-pharmacological approaches in healthy ageing.

Preliminary Knowledge

Anatomy, biological fundamentals of psyche, neuropsychology, social psychology, applied psychology, developmental psychology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.The student recognizes and characterizes the signs of healthy and pathological aging, identifies and defines the influence of related factors, describes with appropriate terminology, psychological aspects related to aging, cognitive process, emotional, personality and attitudes, identifies the health models most suitable for old age, recognizes available non-pharmacological approaches. for healthy ageing promotion.

Skills

1.The student collects, analyzes and interprets the psychological factors related to aging, explains their changes in the context of the healthy aging model, distinguishes the signs of pathological aging from the signs of normal aging, and is also able to identify the lifestyle factors of healthy aging.

Competences

1.The knowledge and skills acquired in the course are applied when developing psycho-educational material on the psychological factors of healthy aging. Understands the material learned in video lectures and is able to discuss it in class.

1) Creating and maintaining a Wiki page. In pairs, students develop psycho-educational material on one of the issues discussed in the course. The material includes: main authors, definitions of main concepts, theoretical background, analysis of the issue in the framework of the biopsychosocial model. 75% of the scientific literature sources used have been published within the last five years. The work is submitted in Wiki format and presented in groups; 2) By independently reading the mandatory and thematically indicated literature sources, consolidate the material learned in the lectures and prepare for the written knowledge test on the psychological aspects of healthy aging; 3) Independently and systematically watch the micro-learning units in order to successfully prepare for the lesson; 4) Performing self-tests after each video lecture; 5) Completing the course feedback survey.

1) Creating and maintaining a Wiki page evaluation criteria (50%): 8 - 10 points – a clear material based on scientific literature has been developed, in which the authors are named, the definitions of the main concepts, the theoretical justification, and the analysis of the issue within the biopsychosocial model are provided. At least 75% of the sources of scientific literature used have been published within the last five years. The principles of Latvian language grammar and text style have been observed, the work was submitted on time. 4 - 7 points – a clear, scientific literature-based material has been developed, in which the authors are named, the definitions of the main concepts are provided, the theoretical justification is provided, and the issue is analyzed within the biopsychosocial model, but the description is not based on current literature. The principles of Latvian language grammar and text formatting have been observed or partially observed, the work has been uploaded on time. Some industry-specific terminology is used. 1 - 3 points – the work does not include any of the parts of the task, scientific terminology is not used, scientific sources are not used, and the principles of Latvian language grammar and text format are not observed. 0 points – the work has not been submitted. 2) Performing self-tests after each video lecture (5%) 3) Written knowledge test (40%): 10 points – 96 – 100% 9 points – 85 – 95% 8 points – 75% - 84% 7 points – 70 – 74% 6 points – 65 – 69% 5 points - 60 - 64% 4 points – 55 – 59% 3 points – 40 – 54% 2 points – 20 – 39% 1 point – 0 – 19% According to RSU Study Regulations I 3.9. point, class attendance is mandatory and is recorded. At the end of each lesson, the student additionally submits a worksheet filled in according to the criteria indicated in the e-environment and, if the criteria are met, receives the grade "passed".
