About Study Course

Objective

To understand the potential eye lesions and lesions of auxiliary eye mechanisms theoretically and practically in case of diabetes mellitus, thyrotoxicosis and other endocrine pathologies (pituitary tumours). To know the diagnosis, clinical manifestations of these pathologies and potential techniques to prevent or delay the development of these lesions. To understand theoretically the specific therapy of these problems.

Learning Outcomes

1.Understand the pathogenesis of eye lesions and their possible diagnosis, specific treatment in different endocrinopathies. Know the indications when a patient should be referred to an ophthalmologist.

Skills

1.Able to assess an ophthalmologist’s opinion in different endocrinopathies. Know how to assess the stage of diabetic retinopathy and the indications for an ophthalmologist consultation and possible laser coagulation or intravitreal administration of endothelial growth factor inhibitors according to fundus oculi photograph or the description of fundus oculi picture, as well as according to the description of optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the retina.

Competences

1.Ability to independently apply the acquired knowledge in the management of ophthalmological problems in endocrine diseases.
