About Study Course

Objective

To prepare laboratory doctors for work in laboratories in specialised medical centres and multiprofile hospitals. To obtain knowledge about the specifics of laboratory work organisation in emergency medical assistance structures, in children’s health care institutions, in the laboratory of infectious diseases, as well as organisation of the work of an accredited laboratory. To use laboratory information systems in daily practice of a laboratory, incl. for preparation of testing results and drawing up of testing reports. To obtain knowledge about advantages of choosing examination methods in multiprofile hospital laboratories, interpretation of obtained results, procedure of notification of critical values of indicators and selection of further examination tactics.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- to describe stages of operation of a multiprofile hospital laboratory; - to name and characterise the most appropriate laboratory equipment, its power and peculiarities in laboratories of an outpatient medical institution; - to name and characterise most common examinations performed in laboratories of a multiprofile hospital; - to use diagnostic algorithms of different diseases; - to know conditions for accreditation of a medical laboratory according to ISO standards.

Skills

1.- to perform different types of testing using automated and manual methods; - to perform microscopy of biological material; - to evaluate clinical and laboratory aspects of reference values; - to interpret pathological results; - to conduct quality control tests.

Competences

1.To perform examinations of human biological material for diagnostics of different diseases in laboratories of a multiprofile hospital. To use modern technologies and methods, diagnostic criteria and examination algorithms for diagnostics and differential diagnostics of diseases – to interpret examination results, incl. in patient groups of different ages, and to recommend further examination activity to clinicians. To ensure the evaluation of factors influencing testing results and corrective actions in case of stated non-compliances.
