About Study Course

Objective

To promote the acquisition of in-depth theoretical knowledge in children's cardiology, to provide knowledge about the structure of the cardiovascular system, functional and structural features for children, as well as to build skills and abilities in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of heart pathologies.

Preliminary Knowledge

Preclinical theoretical knowledge about the structure and function of the cardiovascular system; clinical knowledge in propaedeutics.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Upon successful completion of the study course, the student will gain in-depth knowledge and be able to navigate children's cardiology.

Skills

1.After completing the study course, the student will understand the etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms of heart diseases in children. Be able to evaluate the results of cardiac functional examinations.

Competences

1.After completing the study course, the student will be able to interpret the hemodynamics of heart pathologies, will be able to create an examination and treatment plan in cases of heart pathologies, will be able to interpret children's electrocardiograms.

For the implementation of the program, practical lessons are used, in which students together with teaching staff analyze the theoretical material, solve situational tasks, and discuss clinical cases. During classes, students perform clinical examination of patients. The student's independent work includes: Analysis of a clinical case of a patient with a certain pathology, preparation of a literature review according to the clinical case. A review of the most commonly used medications with dosages and side effects. Presentation of a clinical case or lesson topic.

During the study course the assessment of student’s knowledge, skills and competencies is carried out in practical lessons, patient evaluation, control tests in lessons (multiple choice tests, case tasks), discussions in small groups about theoretical questions and clinical cases, independent work control. Written exam at the end of the practical lessons.
