About Study Course

Objective

Develop students' skills in the clinic by diagnosing oral cavity pathologies in patients using modern and up-to-date technologies. Create a treatment plan for a real patient in dental prosthetics, thereby developing skills and competence in clinical work, as well as understanding the theoretical rationale for the chosen prosthetic treatment plans.

Preliminary Knowledge

Successfully completed study course Preclinical Course in Prosthetic Dentistry IV (ZPK_025). Successfully completed study course Prosthetic Dentistry - Clinic ZPK_028 (4.7.) Successfully completed study course Dental anatomy, craniofacial aspects of physics and bio-materials, medical emergency, radiology, normal physiology, oral pathology diagnosis, clinical pharmacology, prosthodontics clinic dental technical laboratory.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of successfully completing the study course, students will be able to define patient problems and outline treatment plans for dental prosthetics in clinical situations. Students will be able to describe the treatment stages, applicable treatment technologies, and the materials and instruments used in dental prosthetics, including the fabrication of removable and fixed dental prostheses. They will use knowledge about the use of digital technologies in dental prosthetics.

Skills

1.As a result of successfully completing the study course, students will be able to develop treatment plans for dental prosthetics in clinical situations and carry out prosthetics with both fixed and removable dental prostheses.

Competences

1.When creating a treatment plan, students will be able to correctly organize, process, and interpret the information obtained from clinical examinations. In clinical work with patients, students will be able to independently solve various problem situations while performing dental prosthetics in simple clinical cases. Students will be able to evaluate the necessity of using intraoral scanners in different clinical situations.

Individual work

Part 1 1. Communicate independently with the patient to obtain their medical history, problems, and desires. Then, independently create a treatment plan including tooth assessment (prognosis), scientific justification for tooth extractions/restorations, and offer the patient 3-4 treatment plans, one of which is the optimal treatment plan. 2. Independently prepare for the day's clinical work with the patient before the session (knowing which materials and instruments to use; how to perform manipulations that were taught in previous courses), and be aware of the materials/instruments needed for the next class/stage. 3. Independently complete homework assignments: creating presentations, developing treatment plans, reading scientific articles, etc. 4. Independently scan 2-3 teeth of any person (either a patient or another student), and perform the preparation of these teeth on a MOOG simulator, independently, during self-selected free time outside of classes (in consultation with the MOOG supervisor). Part 2 1. To evaluate the overall quality of the study course, the student must fill out the course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.

Examination

Examination

-
10 points

part 1:

The work of the class and seminars shall be assessed with a marking passed or failed (passed = participates in the class and knows what is to be done/necessary - either accepts the patient or assists, chooses the correct materials, heeds the lecturer’s instructions; prepares and actively communicates in the seminar; submits the necessary homework if any are intended), if any of the above does not materialise, then the student shall receive failed mark.

Requirements: Pass 3 colloquiums during the semester; attend practical classes and participate in seminars; accept and treat the patient; add homework yourself, present/discuss presentations, search for materials.

At the end of the semester, 3 colloquiums must be successfully passed and in more than 8 practical classes mark "passed" has been recieved, then student has completed the semester.

Students that have in both semesters at least 8 (4.7. -clinic in part 1 and 4.8 -clinic in part 2) in all colloquiums with the first time of taking a grade, recieve an automatically passed exam. In this case, the assessment of the exam is obtained by averaging the grades of six colloquiums.

part 2:

The work of the class and seminars shall be assessed with a marking passed or failed (passed = participates in the class and knows what is to be done/necessary - either accepts the patient or assists, chooses the correct materials, heeds the lecturer’s instructions; prepares and actively communicates in the seminar; submits the necessary homework if any are intended), if any of the above does not materialise, then the student shall receive failed mark.

Requirements: Pass 3 colloquiums during the semester; take small 3 tests, attend practical classes and participate in seminars; accept and treat the patient; add homework yourself, present/discuss presentations, search for materials.

At the end of the semester, 3 colloquiums must be successfully passed; 3 tests passed and in more than 8 practical classes mark "passed" has been recieved, then student has completed the semester and student can take an exam.

At the end of the course, a written exam. Students that have in both semesters at least 8 (4.7. -clinic in part 1 and 4.8 -clinic in part 2) in all colloquiums with the first time of taking a grade, recieve an automatically passed exam. In this case, the assessment of the exam is obtained by averaging the grades of all six colloquiums.
