About Study Course

Objective

To form understanding of the physiology of the child’s body and pathologies related to functional disorders and the use of massage in children.

Preliminary Knowledge

Human anatomy, physiology, pathological physiology, propedeutics, classical massage.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.After successful fulfilment of the study course requirements, the student will know the facts about physiological processes and regularities of child growth and development, assessment of psychomotor development in infancy, differentiation of physiology and pathology, will be able to name the origins and signs of the most common congenital and acquired health disorders, will know the principles, basic methodology, indications and contraindications of paediatric massage, basic principles of handling.

Skills

1.As a result of completing the study course, students will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in examining the physical and psychomotor development of the child and explaining the developmental disorders identified, will be able to assess the applicability of massage for children, perform classical massage for school-age children, apply handling techniques.

Competences

1.As a result of completing the study course, the student will be able to integrate the acquired knowledge and skills in professional paediatric massage work, evaluate the results.

Students study e-learning materials, additional readings on relevant topics covered in lectures and classes, prepare answers to questions. Students prepare an independent work on the assessment of psychomotor development and possible developmental disorders in children, and perform independent work – massage for school-age children.

Attendance of lectures and classes – 75%, completion of all test work, practical demonstration of massage and handling techniques, at the end of the course – an exam.

Psychomotor development in children from birth to 12 months of age. Unconditional reflexes, importance thereof in the first year of life. Psychomotor development of a child in babyhood, preschool, school age.
