About Study Course
Objective
The course provides advanced knowledge of the impact of systemic diseases and their management on endodontic treatment, developing the resident's ability to assess medical risk factors, plan safe and evidence-based endodontic care for medically compromised patients, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to optimise treatment outcomes and patient safety.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Acquire advanced knowledge of the impact of common systemic diseases and their management on the planning, delivery and prognosis of endodontic treatment. Acquire knowledge of the impact of oncological diseases, medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), and head and neck radiotherapy on endodontic treatment, as well as the role of the endodontist in multidisciplinary patient care.
Skills
1.1. Assess the patient's general health, identify medical risk factors and adapt the endodontic treatment plan according to systemic diseases and ongoing medical therapy. 2. Plan endodontic treatment for patients with oncological diseases, at risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), or following head and neck radiotherapy by evaluating treatment benefits, risks and the need for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Competences
1.1. Integrate theoretical knowledge and clinical skills to independently plan safe and evidence-based endodontic treatment for medically compromised patients by assessing individual medical risk factors. 2. Independently make clinical decisions regarding endodontic treatment for medically complex patients through interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring patient safety and optimal treatment outcomes.

Description
The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the impact of common systemic diseases and their medical management on the planning, delivery and prognosis of endodontic treatment. The seminar examines the influence of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus and osteoporosis on pulpal and periapical tissue healing, infection control and treatment outcomes. The resident develops the ability to assess the patient's general health, medical risk factors and pharmacological therapy, adapt the endodontic treatment plan to the individual clinical situation, and make evidence-based clinical decisions while ensuring patient safety and interdisciplinary collaboration with other healthcare professionals. |

Oncology, Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ) and Radiotherapy: Implications for Endodontic Treatment and the Role of the Endodontist
Description
The resident acquires advanced knowledge of the impact of oncological therapies, medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), and head and neck radiotherapy on endodontic treatment and long-term patient outcomes. The seminar covers risk factors for MRONJ, the implications of antiresorptive and antiangiogenic therapies for endodontic treatment planning, and radiation-induced changes in the oral tissues affecting endodontic care. The resident develops the ability to assess the indications and risks of endodontic treatment in oncology patients, plan treatment in collaboration with oncologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and other healthcare professionals, and make evidence-based clinical decisions to ensure patient safety and maximise tooth preservation. |
