About Study Course

Objective

Promote students’ understanding of the psychological, social, and mental health aspects of spirituality and religiosity in the context of different religions and schools of spirituality.

Preliminary Knowledge

General psychology, personality psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, clinical psychology.

Knowledge

1.Compares the concepts of “spirituality” and “religiosity”, discusses the common and different characteristics of the two concepts.

2.Debates the historical, philosophical, social and psychological aspects of the emergence of religions.

3.Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of religious psychology theories and their connection to social, personality, clinical and developmental psychology theories and principles.

1.The historical, social and psychological aspects of the chosen school of religion or spirituality shall be collected, analysed and evaluated.

2.Scientific publications on the relationship of spirituality/religiosity to mental health shall be critically analysed in accordance with the criteria indicated.

3.Is aware of and evaluates the impact of his or her and the client’s religious/spiritual beliefs on personality and the professional activities of a psychologist.

Competences

1.Based on theories of religious psychology and scientific research, the social, psychological and health aspects of spirituality and religious manifestations in the personal and professional context shall be expertly evaluated.

Students in groups shall prepare a presentation on a religion or school of spirituality, analysing the historical, teaching and ritual and behavioural aspects of the religion/denomination/school of spirituality concerned and their relationship to health.

2.

10 points

Students in groups should present an analytical assessment of the relationship between religiosity/spirituality and physical or mental/mental health of the scientific publication (last 5 years).

3.

Basic knowledge test

20.00% from total grade
10 points

Students shall perform the test individually electronically or in paper form with closed open questions regarding the basic concepts, theories and authors of religious psychology acquired in the study course.

4.

Attendance

10.00% from total grade
Test

Attendance of student lectures is recorded, promoting active participation in the study process.
