About Study Course

Objective

To develop comprehension of the course of historical development of drama therapy; the versatility of theoretical strategies and their assessment criteria. To develop the skill to choose and use the evaluation methods and techniques according to the situation, the specificity of a group of clients/patients, to develop an understanding of the process and outcome of drama therapy. To develop the creative potential in terms of art, to raise awareness of their own art experience and evaluate it; to provide an opportunity to enrich the knowledge about the art language of the theatre and develop skills in perception and expression information therein, as well as to gain collaboration experience by using an art medium. To develop students’ spontaneity, creativity and self-reflection ability.

Preliminary Knowledge

Professional activity in art therapy and its legal basis (1st semester). Evaluation process in art therapy (2nd semester).

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.In the history part of drama therapy – is familiar with the historical progress of drama therapy, describes and compares different directions of drama therapy and explains the specific features of the drama therapy process organisation for working with different client/patient groups. Describe the specificities of the group and the individual drama therapy process (test – analysis and test of three scientific studies).

2.In the improvisational and creative part – knowledge, recognition and description of the general concepts of the creative theatre process, basic techniques of acting and basic genres of theatre. Knows the roles of director, actor, set designer in theatre and the drama therapy process. Knows the principles and creative processes of creative process and spontaneity in drama therapy (verification – practical skills test, professional development diary).

3.In the evaluation part – name and describe the art (drama) based assessment and assessment objectives and types in drama therapy, explain their application in relation to the client/patient group (test – test work, case analysis, test).

Skills

1.In the history section of drama therapy, masters are able to argue reasonably about approaches to drama therapy and their suitability for different client/patient groups.

2.In the improvisation part, evaluate your experience in the use of art (drama)-based instruments. Uses a variety of theatrical techniques and genres. Create a creative environment, provide instructions for a creative task. Apply your actions to the circumstances during the performance of tasks (verification – practical skills test, professional development diary).

3.In the evaluation part, different cognitive and practical skills shall be applied in order to select one or more theoretical concepts and be able to apply them in the client/patient case drama therapy plan, illustrate basic methods, means, materials and information to achieve the objectives set. Assess and analyse the client/patient situation (environmental factors, cultural and social characteristics) and personality and/or cognitive abilities; problems and difficulties, as well as capacities and resources; customer/patient compliance with art (drama) therapy; is able to critically evaluate and select research methods and techniques, instruments according to the situation and customer/patient specificity; is able to record the results of the research/evaluation (verification – minutes design).

Competences

1.In the history of drama therapy – assumes responsibility for carrying out independent tasks, integrates theoretical knowledge and develops professional skills during the performance of tasks. Navigates current world studies of drama therapy and international databases.

2.In the improvisation part, describe and evaluate your experience of art expression; feelings, feelings, emotions, associations, thoughts, images associated with the creative process; describe and critically assess their creative capabilities; analyse your own and other art expressions.

3.In the evaluation part - integrate the acquired results of the art (drama) based evaluation into the assessment of the state of health of the client/patient within the scope of its competence, observing ethical principles; partially able to write a hypothesis and set potential aims for art (drama) therapy; assess their experience in the use of art (drama)-based instruments; apply the acquired knowledge in practice.

Work independently and in small groups in various theatrical techniques and genres during seminars. Systematic entries shall be made in the professional development diary in relation to the use of various theatrical techniques and elements.

Student performs evaluation practically using one art (drama)-based instrument, respecting ethical principles. Draw up evaluation minutes and analyse the results of the evaluation.

Active participation in lectures and classes by asking questions and referring to the sources read. Course attendance is mandatory. If any lectures/classes are not an opportunity to attend – report as early as possible, an additional assignment will be assigned. The order of individual lecture topics may change as part of the course.

Analysis of scientific research:

  1. find and analyse three scientific studies in specialisation according to certain criteria. Research should be published in scientific research databases over the last 15 years (These can be both quantitative and qualitative designs, including case analysis). The studies should vary from patient/client diagnoses to age, working environment and theoretical approach.
  2. Fill in the table attached to e-studies for each of the studies (3 tables in total).
  3. Submit the completed table for each of the studies electronically in E-Studies in a dedicated location.

Students shall agree on the deadline for submission with the teaching staff during the first lecture.

1 point for submitted work after the specified deadline.

Work initially submitted unsuccessfully can be resubmitted within the specified time limit. -1 point for resubmitted work.

  1. making art and improvising in drama therapy - a creative presentation of your own experiences (using elements of drama and theatre).
  2. Professional Development Diary started and improved (primarily in the course “Vocational growth Group” (to be reported)).

One evaluation tool should be selected to be tried individually on three clients (preferably different age groups).

Evaluating three real clients/patients with various art (drama) based instruments, documenting the evaluation using the initial evaluation form, drawings, tables, art (drama) based evaluation minutes, etc. as part of the evaluation process; a deeper analysis of one case – setting hypotheses and targets.

1 point for submitted work after the specified deadline.
