About Study Course

Objective

Improve and consolidate theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired within the study course “Fundamentals of Clinical Care” in the 3rd year of studies.

Preliminary Knowledge

Anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, microbiology, basics of clinical care.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.To assess the patient's condition and practically conduct clinical procedures, to asses the vital signs; oxygen supply; to prepare and administer the prescribed medication to the patient, provide intravenous access with a peripheral venous catheter and perform intravenous drug administration using suitable equipment. Make an accurate blood, urine, stool samples collection for laboratory tests, perform procedures related to the gastrointestinal tract (inserting nasogastric tube, enteral feeding), to administer procedures related to urinary tract (bladder catheterisation), to document the appointed and administered procedures.

Skills

1.Practical skills in performing clinical procedures including: to asses the vital signs; oxygen supply; enteral and parenteral medication, laboratory examination, patient preparation for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in intern and surgical profile units. Students will be able to assess the vital signs, provide oxygen therapy, to insert and remove NG tube, to perform bladder catheterization for women and men.

Competences

1.Ability to examine and assess the patients. Ability to asses the vital signs and provide oxygen therapy. Student will be able to make and justify various drug delivery techniques. Will be able to carry out procedures that affect the digestive tract (inserting NG tube; enteral feeding), urogenital tract (female and male bladder catheterisation).

The evaluation shall be based on the quantity of knowledge gained and the quality of skills provided for in the placement programme. In order to obtain a successful assessment of the placement, the student must perform at least 80% of the intended skills programme. Final assessment is obtained by means of a battery rating, in which knowledge, skills and competence are assessed on the basis of the results presented during the placement and the completion of the placement documentation.
