Knowledge
1.Able to find laws on reproductive health issues in Latvian legislation, to describe and explain the physiology of the reproductive system and the process of fertilisation; To describe the examination of a woman’s menstrual cycle and the examination of the reproductive system in case of various gynaecological pathologies; describe genital infections and methods of detection thereof; To list and describe the causes of infertility (lifestyle factors, male infertility, ovulatory factors of infertility, tubal/peritoneal factors); Able to explain the principles of fertility treatment and assisted reproduction techniques (insemination, in vitro fertilisation and embryo transfer, luteal phase support, frozen embryo storage); Understands the foreseeable risks in pregnancy related to the causes of infertility, treatment thereof.
Skills
1.Able to justify and prescribe tests/examinations to investigate the female reproductive system, explain the need for the examinations and have an understanding of the interpretation of the results. Able to identify possible causes of female infertility and explain basic diagnostic methods for determining the causes of infertility. As a result of completing the study course, the student is able to: - identify infertility, explain to the woman the possible causes of infertility; - explain the infertility treatments available to the woman; - make recommendations on modifiable lifestyle factors that can improve infertility treatment and pregnancy outcomes; - advise the woman on the expected risks of pregnancy following infertility and the methods of treatment thereof.
Competences
1.As a result of acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge, the student is able to: - purposefully obtain information about risk factors related to infertility; - explain to the woman the specifics of pregnancy after the use of reproductive technologies, - advise the woman on the myths related to contraception or vaccination and infertility.
