About Study Course

Objective

To promote knowledge acquisition of gerontology as a separate and interconnected field of medicine, anatomically physiological, psychosocial changes and peculiarities caused by age, linking with identification of health problems at age, provision of basic needs and application of skills in working with gerontological patients; develop understanding of the role of a physician assistant in the care, treatment and rehabilitation process of gerontological patients.

Preliminary Knowledge

Knowledge of normal anatomy, physiology, internal medicine, patient care and diagnosis of diseases.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Upon completion of the study course, students will be able to: - describe gerontology as a separate and interconnected branch of medicine; - outline anatomically physiological, psychosocial changes caused by age, linking them to the identification of health problems at old age, provision of basic needs and the application of skills in working with gerontological patients; - define the role of a physician's assistant in the care of gerontological patients.

Skills

1.On completion of the study course students will be able to: - perform simple tests for identification of gerontological patient health problems, evaluation of physical functional condition and everyday activities; - illustrate signs of posture at the respective age group. - describe the assessment of functional abilities.

Competences

1.Upon completion of the study course, students will be able to assess possible problems in the care of gerontological patients; carry out assessment of the health status; apply simple exercises in the work of a physician's assistant with gerontological patients.

Development of independent work (scheme/presentation) on gerontological assessment of patient functional abilities, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation methods, possible problems in care of gerontological patients.

Compulsory attendance of lectures, seminars and practical classes. The students' ability to describe basic principles of care, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for patients of gerontological profile and to assess the patient's functionality is assessed. Passed test.
