1.1. Defines basic concepts of psychology studies and structural components of academic text. 2. Identify and distinguish the types of scientific sources in psychology, describe their use in study tasks and identify the most important psychology databases. 3. Explains the basic principles of academic integrity, quotation, paraphrase, copyright, research ethics and data protection in the context of studies. 4. Describes the legal and ethical regulation of the professional activities of a psychologist in typical study situations.

Individual work and tests

Written exam (integrated test) Practical tasks/portfolio (sourcing, APA, mini analysis)

Skills

The reliability of sources and compliance with the study assignment shall be critically evaluated, justifying selection on the basis of clear criteria. 3. Draw up references in text and a list of literature according to a specific reference system and correct the most common errors. 4. Structure short academic texts by integrating sources according to academic integrity requirements. 5. Analyse a short scientific paper of psychology, identifying its purpose, method, key results and limitations. 6. Prepare a structured reflection on cooperation and communication in socio-psychological training.

Cooperate in the study group, observing the principles of effective communication, mutual respect and a safe learning environment; 5. Reflecting on their learning experience and the formation of professional identity in psychology studies.

Assessment

Examination

Title

Grade
1.

Written exam (integrated test)

40.00% from total grade
10 points

The written exam (integrated test) examines the student’s ability to distinguish, define and apply academic concepts relevant to psychology studies, analyse scientific sources of information, select and apply certain principles of reference design (APA), as well as explain and apply basic principles of academic ethics, copyright and personal data protection in study and typical research situations.

The exam shall include theoretical questions, practical examples and tasks of situations in which the student must demonstrate the ability to:

  • distinguish between scientific and non-scientific sources in psychology and identify their main characteristics;
  • define and apply relevant academic terms (information literacy, source types, IMRD structure, paraphrase, etc.);
  • explain the role of the databases and justify the choice of an appropriate source selection strategy;
  • choose the correct reference or quotation type in the context of the given example;
  • analyse ethical and data security cases by identifying risks and justifying appropriate action;
  • describe the basic principles of the professional activity of a psychologist and apply them to typical study situations.

The result of the exam reflects the student’s ability to explain the chosen solution in a reasoned manner, demonstrate academic thinking and responsible attitude towards the use of sources, data security and professional conduct.

2.

Practical tasks/portfolio (sourcing, APA, mini analysis)

30.00% from total grade
10 points

Portfolio is a set of tasks that test a student’s ability to independently search, select, analyze and academically draw up scientific information for the purposes of psychology studies. The portfolio consists of a series of short, targeted artifacts that reflect information literacy, academic writing and scientific text analysis skills. Each element forms a verifiable part of learning outcomes.

Portfolio shall verify the student’s ability to:

  • develop and document a search strategy with keywords, operators, filters, and selection logic (P1);
  • assess the reliability and relevance of sources by comparing sources based on clear criteria and justifying selection (P2);
  • to correctly draw up a list of references and literature, identifying and correcting common errors, ensuring consistency and consistency with the uniform reference framework
  • to structure a short academic text, integrating sources through paraphrase and quoting, respecting the principles of academic integrity to
  • analyse a short scientific paper, identifying components of its IMRaD structure (objectives, method, results, conclusions and limitations)

, portfolio tasks shall include:

  1. Search log (queries + filters + selection criteria)
  2. Assessment of sources (justification for reliability, quality and relevance);
  3. A fragment of the reference and literature list, drawn up according to a specific reference system;
  4. A brief academic paragraph integrating sources (paraphraze/quote) with a correct presentation;
  5. Mini scientific paper analysis that identifies key components of IMRAD.

The work is judged on how accurately the student demonstrates the skills to evaluate information, justify their choices, comply with academic integrity and presentation requirements, and structure academic text according to psychology science standards.

3.

Socio-psychological training (participation + reflection)

30.00% from total grade
10 points

Socio-psychological training examines the student’s ability to cooperate effectively in the study group, analyse communication processes and reflect on his or her participation, linking experience with socio-psychological concepts. The aim of the training is to strengthen the competence of the student in building a safe learning environment and respectful academic communication.

The work consists of two parts:

  1. Active and responsible participation in training classes in which the student demonstrates the ability to cooperate, provide and receive reasoned feedback, taking into account group dynamics, principles of confidentiality and safe environment.
  2. Individual reflection, in which the student structurally describes his or her involvement in the group’s processes, analyses aspects of communication and cooperation, links observations to appropriate socio-psychological concepts (such as roles, norms, cohesion, conflicts, feedback) and justifies his or her professional attitude.

In the training, the student shall demonstrate the ability to:

  • structure reflection by clearly describing their observations, behaviours and learning conclusions
  • to analyse communication processes using socio-psychological concepts rather than merely
  • providing and receiving a descriptive message of constructive feedback, arguing their assessments to cooperate respectfully and responsibly
  • and build a safe environment, respecting the group’s agreements, differing opinions and emotional boundaries to
  • adhere to the principles of academic integrity and data security, responsibly managing sensitive information during group work,

the result of the work reflects the student’s ability to translate experience into theoretically sound conclusions, to argue professional conduct and demonstrate responsible participation in the study process consistent with the basic socio-psychological skills required for psychology studies.

Concepts of psychology and principles of academic writing
Description

Students will name and describe basic terms and key concepts of psychology science needed to understand the study process, explain basic principles of academic writing and the structure of scientific text, analyse examples of different academic texts to recognize their essential components, and apply the acquired knowledge to construct simple explanations of definitions and concepts that meet the requirements of the language and academic writing of psychology science. Students will also assess the importance of precise terminology in psychology studies and professional communication. The lecture explains the importance of basic concepts of psychology in academic text and describes the role of the IMRD structure in scientific communication. Scientific sources and basics of information literacy in psychology
Description

Students acquaint themselves with the types of scientific sources used in psychology, the most important databases of psychology and their functions, as well as acquire effective search strategies for finding scientific literature. The ability to understand, compare and critically analyze different types of sources is being developed, distinguishing between scientific information and popular science and pseudoscience. Students learn to assess the credibility and suitability of sources for psychology study tasks. The lecture shows how to develop and document a strategy for searching for literature, as well as how to assess the credibility and relevance of sources to study tasks. Search and source selection scenarios where students analyze different situations are used (e.g. incorrect database, inadequate filter, pseudoscience, etc.)

Structure and presentation of academic papers (APA 7)
Description

In this lecture and practice, students will learn the requirements of APA 7 in the design of academic papers, describe the structure of the scientific text (titles, sections, line spacing, tables, and images), practically format fragments of text, a list of literature, and the structure of the document. Students will analyse real examples of psychology studies and apply design requirements to their texts, developing skills to prepare academic papers in a correct, clear and ethical way. The lecture demonstrates how to apply APA-style requirements to the structure of academic text and shows how to correctly draw up literature according to the standards set. Formatting simulations are used, such as modifying document fragments according to APA conditions.
