About Study Course

Objective

To enable students to learn the basics of sports medicine knowledge, skills and competences necessary for sports specialists. 

Preliminary Knowledge

Study courses mastered: Educational Psychology for Teachers, Teacher’s Professional Skills, Social-Emotional Learning, Legal Aspects of Pedagogical Process, Teaching and Learning in the Context of Diversity, General and Physical Activity Biochemistry, Human Anatomy and Dynamic Anatomy, Foundations and Methodology of Volleyball, Foundations and Methodology of Track and Field Exercises, Foundations and Methodology of Swimming, Foundations and Methodology of Gymnastics, Rhythmics and Rhythmic Combinations, Teacher’s Placement

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.1. Main issues of sports medicine as the functioning of a health-promoting and ensuring system, its objectives, tasks, organisation of functioning. 2. Organisation and content of preventive medical examinations for children, young people and athletes in accordance with Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 594 of 06.09.2016, which prescribe the procedures for health care and medical supervision of children and athletes with increased load.

Skills

1.3. To determine and evaluate posture, body somatotype, the condition of legs and feet. 4. To determine the physical development of children and young people, be able to assess their conformity with the anthropometric standards of physical development in children and young people of Latvia. 5. To determine and be able to evaluate and analyse weight composition.

Competences

1.6. To assess the physical fitness of children and young people and the functional capacity of the body by using EUROFIT tests, to analyse results over time.
