About Study Course

Objective

To develop understanding of the key issues facing the economy, both at micro and macro level, and to promote the acquisition of basic knowledge of the importance of entrepreneurship in the economy, business forms, legal aspects, work organization and financial planning.

Preliminary Knowledge

Secondary school level in basic economics, mathematics and statistics.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students will know and understand the essence of the basic issues of economics and business, the role of the state in the economy, will be able to present the main economic goals and problems, will be able to name the main legislative acts that regulate business, explain the need for accounting of economic activity, define the basic principles of accounting, name and describe the types of business risks. After completing the study course, students are aware of the essence of labor legal relations, understand the general concepts of labor law, students know where to turn to protect their interests in the field of labor law. In record keeping, knowledge and understanding of the classification of record keeping documents, the general requirements for drawing up record keeping documents, the legal force of documents, the circulation and archiving of documents, electronic document systems and types of electronic documents, the language of documents and record keeping, as well as the development of various documents have been acquired peculiarities.

Skills

1.Students will be able to compare common and different micro and macro economics, evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of economic systems, analyze the behavior of market subjects, compare economic indicators of Latvia and other countries, explain the role of the state in economy, advantages and disadvantages, preparation of business plan, SWOT and PEST analysis. After completing the study course, students understand the labor law and the terms of the employment contract. Students will be able to work independently with documents on the establishment of employment legal relations and with various documents developed in accordance with general record-keeping requirements and the requirements set out in the labor law.

Competences

1.Using the acquired knowledge, students will be able to evaluate the Latvian banking system, tax policy and budget, logically formulate and explain the impact of fiscal and monetary policy on the socio-economic situation in the country, evaluate the business environment in Latvia and the role of the state in promoting entrepreneurship, evaluate the effectiveness of control methods, analyze the company's financial indicators, evaluate risks, as well as make decisions for their mitigation and prevention.

Cumulative final grade, consisting of 50% independent work and 50% exam. In order for the student to be allowed to take the exam, the independent works must have a successful evaluation. Taking the exam is mandatory to receive a final grade. The assessment of independent works does not increase the final assessment in case of an unsuccessful exam.
