Current Events in Health Care Science

The lecture covers the historical development of nursing science and nursing theory, from classical theories to modern, human-centered and interdisciplinary approaches. Students will learn about current challenges in nursing, the latest research trends, and the importance of theories in improving professional practice.

The lecture analyses the use of technology in patient care, including digital solutions, remote care, artificial intelligence, and medical devices. It discusses ethical issues related to the use of technology, such as patient autonomy, privacy, data security, equal access, professional responsibility, and the use of traditional and complementary medicine.

Lecture in English. The lecture discusses the principles of assessing the health, functional status, cognitive abilities, nutrition, psychosocial needs, and medication use of geriatric patients. Special attention is paid to the frailty syndrome, risk of falls, loss of physical abilities, polypharmacy, and planning of interdisciplinary care.

The lecture explains the basic principles of evidence-based practice and the formulation of clinical questions using PICO and other structured models. Students learn the principles of critical evaluation of research results and analyze the applicability of scientific evidence to specific patient care situations.

The lecture covers the PICOT question structure and its use in addressing clinical problems. Students learn to collect evidence, evaluate the clinical significance of results, and formulate a reasoned clinical decision, taking into account patient needs, professional experience, and available resources.

The lecture covers international patient safety goals, including correct patient identification, safe medication use, surgical and anaesthetic safety, infection prevention, and effective communication. The safety culture of the organization is analyzed, as well as the importance of incident reporting and learning from mistakes.

The lecture introduces students to the principles of searching, selecting, evaluating and using scientific publications in nursing. The stages of developing a course project are explained - choosing a topic, formulating a problem, analyzing literature, structuring the work, academic writing and presenting results.

The lecture covers the organizational and practical principles of infection control, standard precautions and the basics of epidemiology of infectious diseases. Students are introduced to the prevention of healthcare-associated infections, the organization of care for an infectious patient, the requirements for hand hygiene and the importance of a hygiene plan for a medical institution.

The lecture discusses the World Health Organization's approach to active and healthy aging, emphasizing the preservation of functional capacity, independence, and quality of life. Strategies for chronic disease prevention, self-care, rehabilitation, social participation, and public health are analyzed.

Lecture in English. The lecture discusses the health and care needs of patients with intellectual, physical or combined developmental disabilities. Attention is paid to individualized communication, patient autonomy, safety, family involvement, interdisciplinary cooperation, and equal access to health care.

The lecture analyzes person-centered, interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to solving health care problems. Students get acquainted with technological, social and organizational innovations, their implementation conditions and impact on patient experience, care quality and the health care system.

The lecture discusses the principles of evidence-based care, sources of professional knowledge, and the role of research in the development of nursing professional identity. It analyzes the adaptability of nursing theories to contemporary patient needs, interdisciplinary practice, and the evolving healthcare environment.

The lecture addresses patient and public health literacy, assessment of learning needs, and effective health education methods. It analyzes challenges posed by digital information, misinformation, cultural differences, health inequalities, and patient motivation.

In the course, students analyse various types of violence and their possible signs in children, adults and the elderly. Using examples of situations, the ability to recognise the risk of violence, to document observations, to act in the interests of patient safety and to respect the rights of children, gender equality and the principles of inclusive care is improved.

During the class, students will practically search and select scientific publications for a selected nursing topic. The structure of the course project will be developed, the problem, goal and tasks will be formulated, and the quality and relevance of the information sources used will be evaluated.

In the class, students analyze situations of geriatric patients and identify factors that affect functional capacity, independence and quality of life. Proposals are developed to promote physical activity, nutrition, self-care, social participation and control of chronic diseases.

In the course, students evaluate the risks of infection transmission and apply standard and additional precautionary measures in various clinical situations. In practical work, hand hygiene, the selection of personal protective equipment, the isolation of an infectious patient, and the prevention of healthcare-associated infections are analyzed.

In the course, students analyse real or modelled patient safety situations, identify risks and possible causes of adverse events. Using root cause analysis methods, corrective and preventive measures are developed to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.

In the class, students compare classical and contemporary nursing theories and analyze their applicability to specific patient care situations. Discussions evaluate the significance of theories in care planning, professional decision-making, and addressing current nursing issues.

In the course, students analyze examples of the use of technology in patient care and the related ethical dilemmas. Data confidentiality, patient informed consent, accessibility of technology, professional responsibility and conditions for safe use of technology are discussed.

In the class, students formulate or refine a PICOT question, select relevant scientific evidence for it, and evaluate the clinical relevance of the study results. Finally, a reasoned clinical decision is prepared, integrating evidence, patient preferences, and the possibilities of the specific care environment.

In the course, students work in groups to analyse a specific health care problem and develop a person-centred, interdisciplinary and innovative solution. The feasibility of the solution, the involvement of patients and professionals, the necessary resources and the possible impact on the quality of care are assessed.

In the course, students practically formulate structured PICO questions and conduct appropriate scientific literature searches for them. The selected studies are critically evaluated by analyzing the methodological quality, reliability of the results and applicability in nursing practice.

In the class, students use the results of scientific research to justify their course project and formulate conclusions. Academic presentation skills, argumentation, preparation of visual materials, and the ability to respond professionally to questions and comments are developed.
