About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the requirements of the specialty of a geriatrician and related to the basic issues of geriatrics.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- Ageing process, changes in tissues, organs, physiological functions and homeostasis of the human body. Ageing theories. Psychologicalageing, social ageing. Demographic aspects. - Ageing-related changes in epidemiology of diseases, incidence andsymptoms of diseases. Changes in medication pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. - Complex, comprehensive assessment of the health condition of elderly people, including anamnesis andphysical examination. - Knowledge of geriatric syndromes (instability, falls, incontinence, cognitive disorders, dementia).

Skills

1.- Assess a patient’s health condition by taking into account the clinical situation (collection of anamnesis, physicalexamination, analysis of the previous laboratory and instrumental data). - Usage of the functional condition assessment tools upon making a functional condition assessment of elderly patients. Fills out the “Scale of basic daily activities”, “Scale of daily instrumental activities”, gait and balance assessment test. - Uses instruments for determination of the cognitive functionby making the MMSE test, “Clock test”.

Competences

1.-Formulation of diagnosis. Description of geriatric problems - syndromesin the medical documentation." -Develops the treatment and care plan for patients by taking into account medical indications, (careful clinical assessment, functional condition, guidelines). -Defines and explains health-relatedproblems toa patient or to relatives of a patient in particular cases.
