About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, in accordance with laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia, in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of paediatric nephrologist.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Able to demonstrate knowledge of the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations in children, laboratory, histological and radiological diagnosis, differential diagnosis of kidney and urinary tract diseases, treatment thereof at the hospital and during the pre-hospital stage.

Skills

1.To assess the risks of kidney damage in children; analyse histological preparations of kidneys and interpret the results; perform diagnostic and therapeutic manipulations necessary in the management of uronephrology patients (children of different ages); choose and perform appropriate renal replacement therapy for children with impaired renal function.

Competences

1.Using knowledge of kidney pathophysiology, kidney diseases in children, origin of diseases, symptomatology, link to diseases of other organs, treatment, kidney replacement therapy, as well as modern practical actions resulting from this knowledge for patients up to the age of 18, to carry out diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention.
