Knowledge

1.- Ageing process, changes in the human body in tissues, organs, physiological functions, homeostasis. Theories of ageing. Psychological ageing, social ageing. Demographic aspects. - Ageing-related changes in disease epidemiology, incidence, disease manifestations. Changes in pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics of drugs. - Complex comprehensive assessment of the state of health of elderly people, including medical history, physical examination. - Knowledge of geriatric syndromes (instability, falls, incontinence, cognitive disorders, dementia).

Skills

1.- Evaluates the patient’s state of health, taking into account the clinical situation (collection of medical history, physical examination, analysis of previous laboratory and instrumental data). - When assessing the functional condition of elderly patients, the use of functional condition assessment tools. Completes Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scale, Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) scale, gait and balance evaluation test. - Uses tools to determine cognitive function by completing the MMSE test, the Clock Drawing Test.

Competences

1.- Formulation of the diagnosis. Characterisation of geriatric problems-syndromes in medical documentation. - Prepares a treatment and care plan for patients, taking into account medical indications (careful clinical assessment, functional condition, guidelines). - Formulates and explains health-related problems to the patient, or in some cases to the patient’s relatives.
