About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in thoracic surgery, in accordance with the requirements of the regulations of the urology specialty, in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the urology specialty, in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Theoretical basics of thoracic surgery: • lung, pleura, bronchial system, esophagus and chest wall, anatomy, pathophysiology, • diagnostic methods, instrumentation, used in thoracic surgery • surgical tactics in acute cases, • emergency assistance when necessary indications for operative treatment of • Postoperative period driving characteristics.

Skills

1.• Properly assess the patient's overall condition. • Adequately investigate patients with thoracic pathology. • Able to take the pleural space puncture. • Be able to make the pleural cavity drainage.

Competences

1.• Theoretical knowledge of the anatomy, pathophysiology of the lungs, pleura, bronchial system, esophagus and chest wall, • Theoretical knowledge of the etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis, indications for conservative and surgical treatment of acute surgical diseases of the chest, • Diagnostic methods and instruments used in thoracic surgery, • Post-operative care for a thoracic patient.
