About Study Course

Objective

To promote acquisition of knowledge of the main types of immunopathology and related diseases: immunodeficiencies, autoimmunity, allergies, infections of the immune system, etc.; the most important parameters characterising human immunity, options for the determination thereof, indications, clinical interpretation and use in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of various diseases; immunoprophylaxis and immunocorrection techniques, agents, indications of use and side effects; clinical immunopharmacology agents.

Preliminary Knowledge

Normal anatomy, histology and physiology – must know the structure of the normal immune system, as well as the basic principles of medical genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, pathological physiology and the functions of the immune system.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of completing the study course, students obtain knowledge that allows to: • understand and describe the functioning of the immune system in normal conditions and in case of various immune pathologies; • name and describe the most important immunological test methods that characterise different components of immunity: humoral immunity, cellular immunity, complement system, phagocytosis; • know the aetiology, clinic, immunopathological diagnosis and therapy of immunopathological conditions.

Skills

1.The student will be able to: • orient in the principles of immunotherapy, groups of immunomodulators; • orient in the most important immunomodulatory preparations, their side effects and prevention of the side effects.

Competences

1.As a result of completing the study course, students will be able to: • monitor the progress of pharmacotherapy in case of immunopathologies, evaluate the results and prepare the necessary information for other medical specialists.

Assessment

Individual work

Title

Individual work

-
-
To find immunopharmaceuticals from different immunopreparation groups and analyse their mechanisms of immunological action, indications, side effects and methods of administration in a seminar. To prepare an oral presentation on an immunopharmacological preparation. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.

Examination

Examination

-
-
• discussion (Q&A) on theoretical and practical issues in clinical immunopharmacology; • test work; • oral report on an immunopharmacological agent.
