About Study Course

Objective

The aim of the study course is to develop the student's ability to explain the structure and functions of the human body in an integrated way, to analyse the impact of human movement and sports training, as well as to use medical Latin terminology and basic methods of physiological and biomechanical research in further professional studies.

Preliminary Knowledge

Basic knowledge of biology, physics and chemistry is required, including the structure and function of the human body, the relationship between movement and force, and metabolism and energy exchange. The student must be able to interpret simple diagrams and graphs, perform basic calculations and use English to study literature.

1.Describe the passive and active locomotor apparatus: the skeleton (bones of the trunk and limbs, ligaments, joints) and the skeletal muscles (muscles of the trunk and limbs, their attachments and functions); the structure and basic functions of the heart and circulatory system and the nervous system.

2.Carries out analysis of human movement and physical exercise from the perspective of dynamic anatomy, mechanics, and biomechanics, identifying the muscles that work and the joints involved in executing the movement; selects exercises to develop specific muscle groups.

Students prepare independently for tests and final exams on all topics provided for in the course using lecture materials, video lectures and materials, self-study tests in e-studies, and textbooks.

Biomechanical analysis of movements of a kind of sport

Students independently prepare and submit a report on the biomechanical analysis of their sport in the e-course LSPA_501, using scientific literature sources. The volume of the report may be from 4 to 10 pages depending on the specifics of the sport, at least 3 literature sources must be referred to. The student presents his/her report during the lesson, for which he/she receives an assessment of 10 points (at examinations) together with the presentation and answers to questions, which constitutes 10% of the final assessment for the study course.

The student answers 3 questions from the drawn ticket on: 1) passive locomotor apparatus (osteosyndesmology of the skeleton); 2) active locomotor apparatus (myology); and 3) describes the possible movements in a specific joint and the muscles involved in performing these movements. To receive a positive assessment, at least 55% of the content of the questions must be answered correctly.
