About Study Course

Objective

To strengthen the knowledge acquired in each course and to improve practical skills in working with patients of different ages, in developing an effective communication process, in assessing the state of health, in examining patients, in providing emergency care and treatment, in educating patients, in creating a safe work environment, basing practical activities on legal and ethical principles, respecting confidentiality.

Preliminary Knowledge

Knowledge and skills acquired prior to the placement in the Physician’s Assistant programme of the relevant year of studies.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Will strengthen and improve the knowledge acquired in the study process before the placement on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases, emergency care of the injured, as well as work organisation and teamwork.

Skills

1.Will develop the skills listed in the occupational standard of Physician’s Assistant in interacting with patients, examination, emergency care, diagnosis, treatment, organisation and planning of work, according to the planned course plan.

Competences

1.Will be able to apply the skills acquired in the course and prescribed in the Physician’s Assistant programme and evaluate the results of the activities undertaken to achieve the objectives of the Physician’s Assistant programme.

1. In practice, the student is guided by the RSU Liepāja Branch Placement Regulations, the Placement Programme and current instructions to achieve the objectives and tasks set for the placement, as well as by the internal regulations of the relevant structural unit.

2. During the placement, the student fills in the Placement Logbook, observing the conditions (see Placement Programme).

3. The student works at least 40 academic hours per week (1 academic hour = 45 min.). The placement tasks and duration depend on the curriculum. During the placement, the student is involved in day-to-day work.

4. At the end of the placement, the student submits the Placement Logbook within 3 days of the end of the placement to the director of the study programme and completes a placement evaluation questionnaire.

1. The student’s performance in each part of the placement (I, II, and III year of studies) is assessed by the placement supervisor.

2. Within three days (I, II, and III year of studies), the student submits the “Placement Documents” (see Section VII) to the director of the study programme, duly completed.

3. The director of the RSU Liepāja Branch programme (I, II, and III year of studies), based on the submitted documents, makes an overall assessment of the placement.

4. The placement is passed (I, II, and III year of studies) if the student:

a) has worked 100% of the hours provided for in the study programme;

b) submits a duly completed “Placement Logbook” in a timely manner;

c) has received a positive assessment in each placement place, i.e., not less than 9 points, which corresponds to 4 points.

5. After the placement (I, II, and III year of studies), there is an analysis of the course and report documents, including self-assessment.

6. If in any of the placements (I, II, and III year of studies) the student receives an unsatisfactory assessment, then Section 5.13 – 5.16.3 of Academic Regulations I shall apply.
