About Study Course

Objective

Acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in clinical care, acquiring skills in performing procedures. To create an understanding of the principles of rehabilitation and radiology, their application in nursing practice.

Preliminary Knowledge

General pathology, Pathological physiology, Anatomy, Microbiology with virology and parasitology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.The student will know the goals, indications and contraindications of the skills included in the study course. The student will be able to describe and name the stages (steps) of the skills included in the study course in rehabilitation and clinical care. As a result of studying the course, students are familiar with and able to distinguish different radiological examination methods, orient themselves in their application and examination indications, know the basic concepts of the physical principles of various methods and the biological effect of ionizing radiation. Students acquire the knowledge necessary to fulfill the basic tasks and duties of professional activities in patient rehabilitation, radiology and clinical care.

Skills

1.The student is able to successfully demonstrate the performance of the skills included in the study course on a mannequin. Assess the patient's condition and practically perform clinical procedures; Perform skills to ensure patient hygiene and comfort. Perform patient positioning and transfer. Will be able to prepare and administer (administer) drugs enterally and parenterally. Will be able to administer medication through the patient's skin and mucous membrane. Administer insulin and anticoagulants. Make intracutaneous, subcutaneous, intramuscular injections. Administer intravenous injections. Insert a peripheral intravenous catheter. Administer intravenous infusions (maintenance, discontinuation). Administer medications intravenously through infusion pumps (infusomat, perfusor), administer dosed medications. Administer medications through a central venous catheter. Will understand the administration of blood components. Will know how to perform airway suction/rehabilitation. Perform tracheostomy care. Ensure patient's nutritional intake. Able to insert a nasogastric tube (NGS) and feed the patient through the NGS using various feeding methods. Will be able to perform clinical procedures for the provision of urogenital elimination procedures. Will know how to perform clinical procedures gastrointestinal elimination procedures. Will know how to prepare the patient for various types of diagnostic radiology procedures. You will learn the basic principles of rehabilitation - in pediatrics, surgery, neurology, cardiology and pulmonology.

Competences

1.The ability to provide a comfortable and safe environment for the patient as far as possible. Ability to administer medication. Ability to provide fluid and nutritional intake to the patient. Ability to provide clinical procedures for elimination, processes. Ability to prepare the patient for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Ability to provide patient mobilization and rehabilitation.

Test

Theoretical preparation before classes, for learning the clinical skills included in the study course, using recommended materials, mandatory literature, Internet resources and e-study materials. Independent development of clinical skills in a simulated environment at MITC (RSU Liepāja branch). In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.

Examination

Examination

-
10 points

Systematic testing of theoretical knowledge during lessons, all tests, tests, and independent assignments must be successfully completed. Mandatory 100% class attendance. Independent improvement of clinical skills in a simulated environment at MITC (RSU Liepāja branch). Three thematic colloquiums of the clinical skills test must be successfully completed. The exam takes place using accumulative assessment, in which knowledge, skills and competence are evaluated based on the results presented in tests, tests, independent works and thematic colloquiums in both semesters. The final grade of the exam was accumulated from a weighted average, of which 10% consists of attending classes and active participation in them, 10% independent improvement of clinical skills in a simulated environment at MITC (RSU Liepāja branch); 30% of the evaluations obtained in tests, tests, independent works and 50% of the evaluation obtained in the three thematic colloquiums.
