About Study Course

Objective

To introduce students to the basic concepts of pharmacogenetics, research methods and the application of pharmacogenetics tests in modern health care.

Preliminary Knowledge

In biology, pharmacology and human genetics.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of completing the study course, students acquire basic knowledge in the theory of pharmacogenetics, i.e. what is pharmacogenetics, what are the types and goals of pharmacogenetics research, how the characteristics of the human genome can affect the effect of medicinal products on the patient’s body and how medical personnel could predict these effects.

Skills

1.As a result of completing the study course, students acquire skills in evaluating the influence of heredity factors in cases of variations in drug action and the ability to search for a solution to the situation. In addition, students will be able to explain social and clinical perspectives on interindividual variability in responses to drug substances.

Competences

1.As a result of completing the study course, students gain competence in issues related to the application of human genome research for the implementation of personalised pharmacotherapy and the design of new pharmacogenetic tests, as well as ethical aspects of pharmacogenetics.

Independent work on the course includes:

  • listening and learning from the video recordings of lectures;
  • preparation of laboratory work protocol (following the guidelines indicated on the e-studies);
  • preparation for the seminar exercises;
  • preparation of the presentation (following the guidelines indicated on the e-studies);
  • completion of the study course evaluation questionnaire.

Examination

0.00% from total grade
10 points

During the study course, three works will be evaluated:

  • the protocol of laboratory work;
  • the results of the seminar exercises;
  • presentation.

Evaluation on a 10-point scale in accordance with the provisions of the RSU academic Regulations.

The final assessment of the course is cumulative, taking into account the points received for the three works.
