About Study Course

Objective

To develop students' skills in the clinic, diagnosing oral cavity pathology in a patient, using modern technologies, making a simple dental treatment plan for a real patient; to develop skills and abilities in clinical work by performing dentures on patients.

Preliminary Knowledge

Successfully completed study course Preclinical Course in Prosthetic Dentistry IV (ZPK_025). Successfully completed study course Prosthetic Dentistry - Clinic ZPK_015 (4.7.) Successfully completed study course Dental anatomy, craniofacial aspects of physics and bio-materials, medical emergency, radiology, normal physiology, oral pathology diagnosis, clinical pharmacology, prosthodontics clinic dental technical laboratory.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Investigate a real patient (dental statuss, X-rays, diagnostic impressions, intraoral and extraoral photography) and prepare an independent treatment plan for the individual patient. Knowledge of dental prognosis, the need for treatment for each tooth will be used in the preparation of the treatment plan, as well as the proposed plans in the basics of science-based research. Describe treatment stages, treatment technologies and materials to be used, instruments for dental prosthetics in the manufacture of removable and non-removable dentures. Use knowledge of the use of digital technologies in dental prosthetics.

Skills

1.As a result of successful completion of the study course, students will be able to develop a treatment plan for dental prosthetics for clinical situations and prosthesis with non-removable and removable dentures, practically performing stages of clinical work in clinical situations. Will be able to name and use specific materials, technologies, tools to different dental prosthetic treatment plans and stages. Will be able to use intraoral scanners.

Competences

1.When drawing up a treatment plan, students will be able to correctly arrange, process and interpret the information obtained from the clinical investigation. In clinical work with patients, students will be able to constantly address various problem situations by performing dental prosthetics in clinical situations. Students will be able to expand the need for intraoral scanning in different clinical situations.

Individual work

-
Test

1) Continuous performance of homework according to the e-studies plan.

2) Treatment plan for clinical patient. Know and name/display all necessary materials and instruments for the desired prosthetic step.

3) Preparing teeth on SIMODONT Moog clinical simulators for your patient’s teeth (from oral sound) during the semester ZPK_015 1st part.

Examination

Examination

-
10 points

ZPK_015 part 1 (4.7 semester):

  • 3 colloquium: theory (1GB, 1.5 h), treatment planning (2GB, 1.5 h). Graded in a 10-grade system.
  • Homework: 5GB. Graded passed/failed.
  • Assessment of practical work by criteria: passed / failed.

Criteria by which a student obtains a “passed” assessment for a specific practical class:

  1. the student has prepared for the lesson (know, name and display specific materials, tools required for a specific manipulation/step. Able to explain to the teaching staff step by step the clinical stages and the order of manipulation for the specific clinical case (i.e. student patient).
  2. student has done homework and submitted homework at the specified time and place in e-studies.
  3. student cleans the workplace, assists the other student (assistant job), has made entries in the patient’s medical documents at the end of the lesson, informs the patient about the next lesson.
  4. student is treating patient, asisstant, other students, supervisor and other people if they are present in the practical classes with kindness.
  5. student listens for instructions of the supervisor.
  6. student arrives on time for the practical class (15 min delay allowed) and ends the class on time (including cleaning the workplace and carrying out documentation).
  7. in cases where the student patient has not arrived, the student must listen to the instructions of the teaching staff regarding another type of learning for the particular class (for example, intraoral scans, plastic teeth preparation, analysis of the treatment plan, etc.).

If one of the above mentioned criteria does not meet, the supervisor is entitled to place the assessment “failed” for the written class in the student.

To get a semester pass: all colloquiums must be successfully passed and at least 8 practicall classes should have "passed".

ZPK_015 part 2 (4.8 semester):

  • 3 colloquium: theory (1GB, 1.5 h), treatment planning (2GB, 1.5 h). Graded in a 10-grade system.
  • Homework: 5GB. Graded passed/failed.
  • Assessment of practical work by criteria: passed / failed. The criteria are the same as above mentoned in part1. If one of the above mentioned criteria does not meet, the supervisor is entitled to place the assessment “failed” for the written class in the student.

To obtain admission to the study course exam: all colloquiums must be successfully passed and at least 8 practicall classes should have "passed".

At the end of the study course: a written exam (clinical case of treatment planning, questions of theory, finding errors in a given treatment plan).
