Objective

Knowledge
1.Able to demonstrate in-depth or extended knowledge and understanding of the following topics: - Chemical burns of the oesophagus, first aid and treatment. - Foreign bodies of the oesophagus and respiratory tract, their diagnosis and treatment principles. - Purulent pathology of the lungs and pleura.
Skills
1.Able to independently use the theory, methods and problem solving skills in order to conduct research or artistic work, and highly qualified professional functions Able to reasonably explain and discuss complicated or systemic aspects of the respective field of science or professional area with both specialists and non-specialists - To perform a pleural puncture under the supervision of the ward manager or a certified paediatric surgeon. To participate in pleural drainage. - Know the specifics of patient preparation for surgery on different organ systems, with emphasis on emergency and urgent surgery. To learn the basic principles of treating patients in the post-operative period.

A resident can get a passing grade if they can:
• provide emergency surgical treatment in acute cases of patients with thoracic pathology,
• establish the correct diagnostic regimen and treatment tactics for patients with thoracic pathology,
• identify possible post-operative complications, their prevention and treatment, use practical skills in diagnostic and therapeutic manipulation.
Final examination - at the end of the cycle, the resident’s theoretical knowledge is tested in a written test (50 questions) and orally, and the practical skills acquired are assessed on a 10-point scale.
