About Study Course

Objective

To ensure the acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in obtaining donor organs from deceased donors, in accordance with the requirements of the regulations of the specialty of transplantology, in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of transplantologist, in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

1.Resident acquires basic knowledge and competences on procurement of deceased donor organs, multi-organ procurement, evaluation of organ quality and conservation.

Skills

1.Resident will be able to perform the procurement of donor organs from deceased donors.

Resident must acquire detailed theoretical knowledge of deceased donor surgery, the technique of separate organ retrieval, multi-organ explantation, the technique of organ removal in cases of brain death and circulatory death. Must learn practical skills in obtaining donor organs from deceased donors. Must be able to obtain high-quality donor organs from various types of deceased donors for future transplantation.

Teacher evaluates the practical skills in a 10-point system, recording it in the resident's book. The test of theoretical knowledge is conducted in writing and is graded in a 10-point system.
