About Study Course

Objective

To provide students with and improve their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in thoracic surgery in accordance with the requirements of the surgery speciality regulations in order to prepare the doctor for certification in surgeon’s speciality.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.- theoretic knowledge about anatomy, pathophysiology of the lungs, pleura, bronchial system, oesophagus and thoracic wall, - theoretical knowledge on aetiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnostics of acute thoracic surgical diseases, indications for conservative and surgical treatment, - diagnostic methods, instruments used in thoracic surgery, - surgeon’s tactics in acute cases, - emergency medical assistance when needed, indications for surgical treatment, - peculiarities of management of the postoperative period.

Skills

1.- To evaluate general condition of a patient in a proper way, - To examine a patient with a thoracic pathology in a proper way, - Should be able to perform a puncture of the pleural cavity, - Should be able to perform drainage of the pleural cavity,

Competences

1.To deliver skilful first and emergency medical assistance to patients with thoracic pathology.
