About Study Course

Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in neurology according to the requirements of sport medicine physicians’ specialty.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Knowledge of mutual interconnection of sports medicine as a multidisciplinary field of medicine and neurology. Theoretical and practical knowledge of the functioning of the nervous system during rest and physical load, different neurological disorders, prevention, diagnostics, dynamics of neurological diseases, treatment tactics, methods of acute sports injuries of different degrees of seriousness and suitable physical activity for such patients and physical activity restrictions.

Skills

1.Ability to reasonably select the most suitable examination methods in case of diseases or injuries, assess examination results in patients with neurological symptoms and set up a treatment plan for neurology patients, awareness on the measures to be taken in acute situations at the prehospital stage.

Competences

1.Competence in solving different clinical cases, diagnosis, etiopathogenesis, treatment, prevention and care.

To improve knowledge and practical skills in patient assessment, control and application of medical technologies, diagnostic and medical manipulations. Theoretical knowledge is acquired in 6 seminars and in individual literature studies. During practical classes students monitor patients under the supervision of a physician eligible to provide such training, participate in examination, by mastering diagnostic and medical manipulations. A medical resident acquires diagnostic methods in neurology, manipulations and methodology of invasive and non-invasive medical technologies applied in the practice of a sports physician.

At the end of the study course the head of the residency programme evaluates the acquired theoretical knowledge in written and oral form. The written test shall be assessed according to the 10-point grading system.
