About Study Course
Objective
To develop understanding of the concepts of clinical and health psychology, biopsychosocial approach to illness and health, to deepen the understanding of the work of a psychologist in the healthcare system, as well as to improve skills in using psychological assessment and support methods/interventions.
Preliminary Knowledge
General psychology, biological principles of psyche and psychophysiology. Clinical psychology, health psychology, pathopsychology, psychological assessment.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Students explain the terminology of clinical and health psychology.
2.Name and define the terms used in health promotion.
3.Name and describe the social determinants of health.
4.Explain the concepts of risk factor, causal factor and confounding factor in the context of the multifactorial theory of disease.
5.Name and describe health behaviour models and theories.
6.Name and describe the concepts of health and disease perception.
7.Describes the manifestations of mental disorders and describes the process of its formation in the context of the biopsychosocial model.
8.Describes the nature of pain, assessment methods and control techniques.
9.Describes the types of psychological assessment and help (interventions) used in health care facilities.
Skills
1.Use correct concepts of health and mental illness.
2.Select and justify the most appropriate theoretical framework for health promotion.
3.Evaluate the presence of social factors in the origin and spread of various diseases.
4.Compares health behavior theories and models.
5.Apply knowledge to evaluate client/patient health and illness perceptions, as well as health behaviour and formulate health-oriented behaviour goals.
6.Describe and differentiate psychopathological symptoms and syndromes in children, adolescents and adults.
7.Select and analyse psychological research and intervention methods.
Competences
1.Discuss the concepts of health and disease.
2.Independently selects the most appropriate, theoretically based health promotion action model for a specific target group and health problem.
3.Apply health and illness perceptions, as well as health behaviour theories and models independently (in learning situations) in health behaviour planning and goal setting.
4.Select effective interventions for correcting health and disease perceptions, promoting health behaviours, preventing health-compromising behaviours and controlling pain (in learning situations).
5.Students critically evaluate psychological assessment and help methods applicable in health care institutions.
