About Study Course
Objective
To provide knowledge on the problems of drug poisoning in Latvia and worldwide, interactions between substances used in everyday life and medicines.
Preliminary Knowledge
Basic human anatomy, physiology and pathology, medical biochemistry.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Students will have acquired the knowledge allowing: • to understand the interactions between medicines and substances used in everyday life and how to prevent them.
Skills
1.The student will be able: • to advise patients and medical professionals on the risks of interactions between medicines and substances used in everyday life; • to take part in and organise health promotion activities for the society aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle and informed use of medicines.
Competences
1.The student will be able: • to implement health promotion measures aimed at prevention and early detection of diseases; • to monitor pharmacotherapy in case of chronic diseases.

|
The student independently studies the literature offered in the study programme, summarises the obtained information. Prepares a clinical pharmacist’s assessment of possible therapies and makes recommendations for the prevention of poisoning based on the knowledge gained.
In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.
