About Study Course

Objective

To provide students with knowledge and skills about the structure and application of the WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) in rehabilitation practice, in order to promote evidence-based and regulatory framework-based professional practice and collaboration within an interdisciplinary team.

Preliminary Knowledge

Anatomy, physiology, introduction to speciality.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.Able to explain the concepts of functioning and disability, describe the structure of the WHO ICF, define the basic terms of the ICF and describe the practical applications of the ICF in rehabilitation practice.

Individual work and tests

Skills

1.Able to analyse simple clinical cases using ICF basic principles, apply appropriate ICF category codes, explain the basics of functioning evaluation, and evaluate a person’s functioning using some measurements.

  • Students independently watch 6 video lectures and familiarize themselves with the attached theoretical material.
  • Take 6 self-control tests to check the mastery of each topic.
  • Analyze clinical cases in groups using ICF components and prepare a description of the disability (3 tasks). Perform a written reflection (1 task). Develop a presentation (1 task). In case of absences, perform remedial tasks.
  • Complete a course evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course.

The final grade is calculated as the average of all lessons and assignments.

Minimum requirements for taking the exam:

  • watched all 6 video lectures and completed all 6 self-tests,
  • attended all practical classes (5 for full-time students, 3 for part-time students) or completed remedial assignments,
  • submitted all independent and group work.
