Objective

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.• Students will acquire theoretical knowledge about patents. • During the course students will get understanding of the need of patents for business ideas and their differences in various countries. • At the end of the course students will understand potential investor involvement in patents. • Students will acquire deeper understanding of technology startups.
Skills
1.• During the course students will obtain and strengthen their leadership and motivational skills, for example in problem solving through case studies, decision making through essays, advising through group works. • At the end of the course students will have developed their team building (collaboration, communication, sharing opinion a.o.) and organizational skills (categorizing data, goal setting a.o.). • After the course students will have trained and thus supplemented their analytical skills – critical thinking, data analysis, reporting and numeracy through different types of tasks that will be done during the study course.

• Working on eight essays
• Development of an individual project – a study on the start-up patents, using the gained knowledge, skills and methods, development of the conclusions and practical recommendations in the framework of social and economic situation in the country and selected organization or a start-up an its characteristics
• Presentation of the individual project.

Preparation for classes, proactive participation and contribution during the classes (discussions, group work, feedback).
The minimum attendance or participation requirements – 50% of all classes.
• All required essays and the individual project need to be submitted – 35% of final mark.
• All individual and group tasks need to be completed during the classes – 35% of final mark.
• Students who do not meet the minimum attendance or participation requirements (50% of all lectures and seminars) can be refused to attempt or be considered for assessment.
Exam – 30% of final mark.
