About Study Course
Objective
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.• To formulate and sequentially arrange the normal abdominal anatomy, its common variants including viscera, abdominal organs, omentum, mesentery and peritoneum on CT, US, MRI and conventional radiology. • To name, explain and radiologically assess the most frequent abdominal pathologies, including manifestations of intestinal inflammation, malabsorption syndrome and infection, analyse differential diagnostic possibilities. • To decipher and briefly describe and analyse the principles and indications for post-therapy imaging, complications.
Skills
1.• To demonstrate, explain and use descriptions of abdominal radiographs. • To differentiate between, interpret and explain radiography of the oesophagus, stomach, small and large bowels. • To recognise, describe and evaluate the basic principles and radiological findings of transabdominal US. • To interpret, demonstrate and use abdominal CT protocols and descriptions, including adaptation to specific situations (use of intravenous or intraluminal contrast, CT enterography) with accurate knowledge on the potential dose of radiation to the patient and medical personnel. • To demonstrate, explain and use abdominal MRI protocols and descriptions under the guidance and supervision of the lecturer, including adaptation to specific situations (use of intravenous or intraluminal contrast, MR cholangiopancreatography, liver fat/iron quantification). • To differentiate between, interpret and explain the types and descriptions of abdominal oncological examinations according to international standards (RECIST, WHO) in cases of specific situations.
Competences
1.• To evaluate, substantiate and justify descriptions of abdominal radiographs. • To plan, interpret and compare the performance and descriptions of contrast examinations of the oesophagus, stomach, small and large bowels. • To substantiate, evaluate and justify the indications and descriptions of performing transabdominal US. • To plan, interpret and evaluate the choice of abdominal CT protocols and their descriptions, including adaptation to specific situations (use of intravenous or intraluminal contrast, CT enterography). • To substantiate, compare and justify the choice of abdominal MRI protocols and descriptions under the guidance and supervision of the lecturer, including adaptation to specific situations (use of intravenous or intraluminal contrast, MR cholangiopancreatography, liver fat/iron quantification).

• To master electronic transmission of data in gastrointestinal and abdominal radiological examinations and basic principles of radiological work in e-environment.
• To develop and modify team work and interdisciplinary communication skills.
• To improve and develop basic skills for preparation of case reports for a demonstration, theoretical analysis and presentation at councils, clinical conferences, scientific forums and for publication.

A certified teaching physician assesses the resident’s knowledge and skills on a 10-point scale at the end of each rotation cycle.
Theoretical knowledge of normal and pathological radiological anatomy and practical skills in interpretation of examinations according to the study course description of the relevant radiology specialty are assessed.
