About Study Course

Objective

To give knowledges about bacteria, viruses, parasitic protozoa, helmiths and ectoparasites, their structure, role in the process and ethiology of infectious disease, clinical symptoms, inform about their prevalence, sources of infection, spread types, specific and unspecific prophylaxis. To give knowledge about hospital acquired infections (HAI), their transmission, prevention, role of medical staff in spread of HAI.

Preliminary Knowledge

Student needs background knowledge in biology, chemistry, human anatomy and physiology.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.On completion of the study course students will gain knowledge about the structure and properties of bacterias, parasitic protozoa, funghi, helminths, ectoparasites and viruses, their role in spread and origin of infectious and parasitic disease, will attain regularities of specific and unspecific protection mechanisms, principles of infection spread control, combating of infectious and parasitic diseases.

Skills

1.On completion of the study course students will be able to take bacterial and parasitic samples, store and transport them to laboratory for microbiologic, viral and parasitic examination, prepare and analyze stained and native microbial slides, apply methods of sterilization and desinfection in control of spread of infectious and parasitic diseases.

Competences

1.Knowledge acquired in this study course will provide the ability to students to use methods of control of microorganisms, viruses and parasites. They will be able to explain patients the origin, pathogenesis, investigation and prophylaxis of infectious and parasitic disease.

Assessment

Individual work

Title

Individual work

-
-
Prior each practical class students study teoretical material, during classes they carry out laboratory work, make microscopic slides, use microscope for slide analysis of pure culture, provide bacterial cultivation, analyze microbiological diagnostic schemes. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.

Examination

Examination

-
-
During the study course theoretical knowledge will be assessed during practical classes as well as activeparticipation in practical classes, results of four colloquiums and exam will be evaluated. At the end of the study course students are able to get cumulative grade which is made of an average mark of four colloquiums multiplied by class attendance coefficient.
