About Study Course

Objective

To provide students with general knowledge of the concept and goals of fitness, the relationship of the fitness field with other disciplines; to introduce the most important terms used in fitness in Latvian and English. To provide students with the opportunity to get acquainted with various types of fitness classes and their impact on the body in practice. Since the study course is a basic course for an introduction to the specialty, in order to continue developing specific knowledge, skills and competences in specialization study courses, the general prerequisites for the acquisition of the study course are general.

Preliminary Knowledge

Students should have experience in fitness or sports, basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and be able to apply language skills and critical evaluation of information.

Description of participation in three fitness classes

Test

Participation in three remote or in-person fitness classes of your choice and submission of reports on them in e-studies. The work is counted if at least 55% of the work is completed out of 100%. 30% - for the description of each class (in total 90%), 10% - for the timely submission of the work. A detailed current description of the work tasks is available in e-studies and is discussed at the first in-person class in the study course.

Test

Students read one study on fitness of their choice and submit a review of it in e-studies. The template for the work to be completed is available in e-studies. The work is passed if at least 55% of the work's 100% volume is completed. 90% - for a correct description of the study, 10% - for a timely submission of the work. A detailed current description of the work tasks is available in e-studies and is discussed at the first face-to-face class in the study course.

Definition of fitness concepts

Students define terms used in fitness (in Latvian and English). Students must provide a written definition of 20 fitness terms found in the course study materials and supplemented with information obtained in person at classes and lectures. To receive a minimum grade of 4 points, at least 55% of the 100% work must be completed. For each correct definition of the term, 5% of the total examination score is awarded. A detailed current description of the work tasks is available in e-studies and is discussed at the first in-person class in the study course.

Test for fitness theory

35.00% from total grade
10 points

Students complete a timed multiple-choice test with 25 multiple-choice questions on the theoretical issues included in the study course materials. To receive a minimum grade of 4 points, at least 55% of the work must be completed out of 100%. For each correctly answered question, 4% of the total examination score is awarded. A detailed current description of the work tasks is available in e-studies and is discussed at the first face-to-face class in the study course.

Presentation of a fitness class

45.00% from total grade
10 points

Students create and present a presentation on one type of fitness class that they have included in their personal training plan, justify its inclusion by referring to research and literature, and their trainer's recommendations. The presentation template can be found in the e-studies course. To receive a minimum assessment of 4 points, at least 55% of the 100% workload must be completed. 40% - correctly completed presentation on one type of fitness class included in the personal training plan, 40% - correct justification with references to sources, 10% - presentation submitted in e-studies within the specified deadline, 10% - correct answers to additional questions. A detailed current description of the work tasks can be found in the e-studies and is discussed at the first face-to-face class in the study course.
