About Study Course
Objective
Provide insight and acquire knowledge of infectology, anaesthesiology and ophthalmology, including clinical manifestations, potential complications, principles of patient treatment and care.
Preliminary Knowledge
Anatomy, histology, physiology, pathologic anatomy, pathologic physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, propaedeutics, internal diseases, infectious diseases, pharmacology and immunology, types of surgery, topographical anatomy, pathological physiology, clinical laboratory examinations, first aid during patient’s primary and secondary investigation on the site of accident, basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic elements of shock.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
1.Clinical infectology: Students will be able to characterise and classify infectious diseases according to their ethyological factor, associations with pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, the possibility of spreading and hazards to the individual and public health; describe and identify specific, typical, pathogenic and other symptoms; explain the investigation programme and systematise laboratory methods; formulate and explain the general principles of therapy; link the steps of the healthcare plan to individualised healthcare; explain today’s specific prevention principles to both the public and the individual. Ophthalmology: As a result of the completion of the study course, students acquire in-depth knowledge and are able to name and display in the means of view the anatomy of the auxiliary mechanisms of the eye, characterise the physiology of the eye and describe the ethiopatogenesis, epidemiology, clinic, principles and prognosis of diagnosis and treatment of the most common eye diseases. Anaesthesiology: As a result of the completion of the study course, students will be able to name and characterise anaesthesiology and intensive care methods, recognise and characterise shock (especially hypovolemic, anaphylactic, septic), be able to perform in-depth cardiopulmonary resuscitation, be able to name and characterise changes in pathophysiological and biochemical processes due to surgical trauma, the devastating effects of pain syndrome on the body and the transmission of nociceptive impulsion to CNS, describe types of pain syndrome blocking in reflector arc sections, the basic principles, types, benefits and side effects of anaesthesia, the specificities of the surgical patient’s pre-operative examination, the method of assessing the physical condition of the surgical patient with an ASA scale, as well as the basic principles and perioperative care of the surgical patient’s pre-operative preparation, critical conditions and the basics of intensive care.
Skills
1.Clinical infectology: Will be able to create a plan for medical activities aimed at laboratory and other types of diagnosis of an individual's disease; specific, etiological and other types of treatment; will be able to implement the prepared plan, taking into account epidemiological, life and disease anamnesis, laboratory examination and other data; will be able to evaluate the data obtained as a result of the physical examination; will be able to integrate laboratory examinations into the design of disease diagnostics; to plan the specific and non-specific preventive measures necessary to limit the spread of the disease. Ophthalmology: as a result of the completion of the study course, the student will be able to: • Test visual acuity without correction • perform an ophthalmoscopy eye butt examination inspect the eye in the gap lamp • take action in acute situations in ophthalmology; • examine the eye patient to assess the need and extent of ophthalmological assistance. Anaesthesiology: Electrical cardiac defibrillation, basic deep cardiopulmonary resuscitation measures, instrumental airway permeability (respiratory ducts, laryngeal mask, laryngeal tube, tracheal intubation, cricotireotomy) will be able to evaluate the condition of a comatose patient.
Competences
1.Clinical infectology: Apply the knowledge of the basics of factology, argumentation, logic and rhetoric in order to analyze permissible and detectable situations in theoretical and practical infectology, discuss, justify and explain one's opinion and constructively promote the achievement of professional goals and the performance of specific tasks in ensuring individual and public health; when dealing with patients, relatives of patients and colleagues from other specialties, communicate successfully in the fields of prevention, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases; to cooperate professionally with patients, relatives of patients, colleagues in a respectful atmosphere, observing the normative basis binding on the medical field, ethical norms, respecting patients' rights and ensuring epidemiological safety; learn independently and constantly and know how to use the electronic environment for communication; demonstrate and improve oneself as a future medical practitioner and health promoter for the individual and society in the context of specific and non-specific prevention of infectious diseases. Ophthalmology: As a result of the acquisition of the study course programme, the student will be competent to work independently with ophthalmological patients in general practice doctors’ practice, as well as be able to continue further education. The student will be able to perform ophthalmological care in the primary care stage and observe ethical and legal aspects, analytically evaluate the conclusion of the ophthalmologist and reasonably plan the examination and treatment of the patient, as well as interpret the results of the visual examination examination, apply them to a specific clinical situation and link them to a common investigative process, interpret the result of the examination performed by the specialist, apply it to a specific clinical situation and link it to a common investigative process. Anaesthesiology: Students will be able to use the knowledge and skills described through in-depth cardiopulmonary resuscitation, analyse types and stages of general and regional anaesthesia, risk of surgery and anaesthesia, analyse intensive care in more common situations, interpret competences for clinical, biochemical, water-electrolyte analysis, blood gas composition and acid-alkali balance indicators, coagulation indicators, attribute them to a specific clinical situation and link it to a common investigative process, to interpret clinical and laboratory signs of renal and hepatic failure by linking them to the general condition and to develop a competent action plan, to attribute central hemodynamic indicators to a specific clinical situation and to link them to a common investigative process, to be able to develop their own immediate action plan and far-reaching action tactics on complex and long-term health problems in patients, and to align them with the activities of other healthcare system actors, to carry out situational analysis, to demonstrate individual treatment of the patient, make arguments-based, verifiable and scientific-minded decisions on patients’ health or life through a balanced application of general operating guidelines and a creative approach in each clinical case.

Clinical Infectology: Preliminary preparation for each practical class (relevant topic). Opthalmology: independent work with ophthalmic specialist literature and e-study materials. Students independently check the visual acuity and perform an eye inspection in the gap lamp. Students record the results of the examinations. Anaesthesiology: Prior preparation of the topic of the relevant class using recommended literature and Internet sources, evaluation thereof and practical application in practical classes. Clinical infectology: Assessment is based on the following components: the average grade across all classes (50%) and clinical case interpretation (50%). The assessment is conducted using a points-based grading system. Detailed assessment criteria and requirements are available in the e-studies platform. Opthalmology: examination work in each class, examination at the end of the course (knowledge assessment: credited/not credited). Upon completion of the study course OSKE – assessment in a 10-point system. Anaesthesiology: Assessment criteria for in-depth cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including defibrillation, for the dummy – the basic resuscitation algorithm should be known and practiced in assessing the safety of the area, reaction test, call for assistance, respiratory release, respiratory test, chest compression, artificial lung ventilation with manual ventilator, further preparing the defibrillator for work, heart rhythm analysis, defibrillator charging, defibrillation safety test, practical defibrillation, 2 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, repeated heart rhythm analysis, pulse and respiratory testing, intravenous administration of medication, and a description of subsequent tactics. For airway permeability, the practical application of the devices to be used, rapid and atraumatic introduction to the correct airway, control and provision of ventilation and fixation of the tube input should be known. |
