Objective

To ensure acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in musculoskeletal radiology according to the requirements of radiology speciality regulations to prepare doctors for certification in radiologist’s speciality according to regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.• To classify and briefly describe the normal anatomy and anatomical variants of the musculoskeletal system. • To differentiate, analyse and briefly describe the clinicopathology, radiological findings (X-ray and USG) and principles of treatment of common pathologies of the musculoskeletal system.

Skills

1.• To recognise, characterise and evaluate normal and abnormal findings in radiographs of the musculoskeletal system (X-ray and USG) under the direct supervision of a certified physician. • To distinguish between, interpret and explain musculoskeletal radiograph projections and the basic principles of their performance under the direct supervision of a certified physician. • To demonstrate, explain and use the basic principles and findings of musculoskeletal USG under the direct supervision of a certified physician.

Competences

1.• To evaluate, substantiate and justify musculoskeletal radiographs and their descriptions under the direct supervision of a certified physician. • To plan, interpret and compare radiographic projections of the musculoskeletal system under the direct supervision of a certified physician. • To plan, interpret and justify USG examination of the musculoskeletal system, findings and descriptions under the direct supervision of a certified physician.

Examination

-
-
A certified teaching physician assesses the resident’s knowledge and skills on a 10-point scale at the end of each rotation cycle. Theoretical knowledge of normal and pathological radiological anatomy and practical skills in interpretation of examinations according to the study course description of the relevant radiology specialty are assessed.
