About Study Course

Objective

To give students practical and theoretical knowledge and experience in oral health promotion and education for the elderly.

Preliminary Knowledge

Philosophy of Public Health and Health Promotion, Public Health and Dental Care, Prevention of Dental Diseases.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

1.At the end of the study course, students will have knowledge of seniors’ oral health. Knowledge of the specific characteristics of the elderly patient body, understanding abnormal processes in the mouth of the elderly, knowledge of the treatment of elderly patients and improvement of oral health.

Skills

1.Students will be able to: * Apply knowledge of the oral health of seniors in practical work; * Recognise and take into account the specific characteristics of the elderly patient body in treatment planning; * Identify and analyse abnormal oral processes in elderly people; * Choose appropriate treatments and promote oral health in seniors.

Competences

1.Theoretical competence regarding oral health of seniors, including knowledge of the physiological and pathological characteristics of the elderly patient organism; Competence of critical thinking: ability to analyse and interpret abnormal oral processes in elderly patients; Clinical competence – ability to assess the oral health status of seniors and plan appropriate treatment; Preventive and therapeutic competence: the skills to apply appropriate methods to improve oral health in elderly patients; Communication and cooperation competences: the ability to communicate effectively with seniors, taking into account their individual needs and health conditions.
